Re: UKM application experience and timeline

Congratulations! That took most of six months. My UKM application from the US was submitted 23 March 2023 with biometrics 1 June 2023. So I have as much as another couple of months to go, which is longer than I had hoped. Thank you for all the details about the return shipping. I was under the poss...

Born in Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland

Is it possible for someone born in Salisbury in June 1958, with paternal grandparents born in the UK, to be registered as a British Citizen?
A move to South Africa took place within 2 years of birth and naturalization as an SA citizen by descent occurred.

Re: UKM application experience and timeline

If you haven’t sent your passport on, yet, consider only sending a colour certified copy of every page including the cover.

I did that from South Africa.

Re: UKM application experience and timeline

My process was completed last year. The waiting between each stage was so stressful but this forum made the process seem so much more manageable.

Re: UKM application experience and timeline

You’re brave handing your passport in! I sent in a certified photocopy as I was still travelling weekly then (remember the days when we could travel...?). Still, you’ll get everything back again. Good luck; it seems that the processing times are back on track. Passports are taking longer than before...

Re: UKM application experience and timeline

A friend is going through the application process now. Submission was during lockdown and so far timelines are on track with the biometric request having come through right on time.

Re: UKM application experience and timeline

A colleague took my photo in our offices on my cell phone. I uploaded to the website and after a couple of false starts (shadows or too dark) the photo was accepted by the site. @Ballet (or anyone else applying from Johannesburg) - where did you take your photo for the online passport application? T...

Re: UKM application experience and timeline

You may need to reapply given the length of time that has elapsed. I would go directly to your nearest visa office to enrol biometrics when they are called for rather than waste time trying to make an appointment. Hi all -- I too am confused about my UKM application. I am a US citizen born to a Scot...

Re: UKM application experience and timeline

Congratulations!!! How did it go, yesterday? Your passport application should be a smoother process. I am attending my ceremony tomorrow. Finally, The certificates go to Capetown first then they stay there around 2 weeks before going out. Will do my passport application at the consulate, print and p...

Re: UKM application experience and timeline

🇬🇧🎉🎊 Congratulations! WOW I am relieved as I finally received my passport today , less than 3 weeks since applying , so processing is quite prompt. (DHL seems to take the most time) My final timeline from commencement of my application to receipt of passport is a few days short of 7 months. I have b...

Re: UKM application experience and timeline

That is super frustrating! Processing of passports and other documents seems to be on track though. My father got his spouse visa in 4 weeks which is under the estimated time. Hopefully everything following your ceremony is going to be better for you and you can recover some time that has been lost ...

Re: UKM application experience and timeline

Hi I’ve popped in here to see how you’re getting on. I think you’re the last of our wave of applicants to complete the process. XXX Hi Everyone, I have been advised my certificate will be sent to PTA this week from the Home office. So about a month after approval. Does anyone know how long the Diplo...

Re: UKM application experience and timeline

I completely understand the relief. I was there, too. I’ve had my passport for a couple of weeks and am already experiencing the benefits. I’ve breezed through the e-gates in Spain; applied for an ESTA to travel to the USA (granted in only a few hours) and applied for another e-visa and it came thro...

Re: UKM application experience and timeline

Hi Faircape No, nothing was certified in any way. I colour copied them and popped them into the DHL envelope. They arrived back here in the same condition. I returned from Europe yesterday and saw my brand new British passport for the first time. Now it is real! It says “British Citizen” on it and t...

Re: UKM application experience and timeline

I think that if you have a passport that is not for the country that you live in then you need to send in the original passport. The only original document that I sent was the registration certificate. I travel too frequently to send my passport in. I haven’t even seen my British passport yet as I’m...

Re: UKM application experience and timeline

Thank you, I am delighted to have visa free travel available to me. My passport will be going on it’s first trip next week and I can’t wait to use the e-gates in Europe. I am grateful for this site as it helped me manage my own expectations of the process and timelines; I’m pleased I could give back...

Take a photocopy of the biometric page of your passport, too. I was asked for one and I don’t remember reading that I needed it. Luckily I had a spare with me. I am beginning to think about all the things I need for my ceremony on Thursday. (Including my outfit 8) What documents did you take with yo...

Re: UKM application experience and timeline

Congratulations! Your timeline was a little shorter than mine. It is such a relief to get to the end. I wonder whether your ceremony will be similar to mine. I was surprised to not meet anyone who was on this site at my ceremony. It seems we are the last few going through the Romein route on here. I...

Re: UKM application experience and timeline

Thank you! I’ll look out for the DHL text. I’m still hoping for Friday... Thanks so much. I received an sms with DHL reference number today in fact - it seems the parcel is handed from dxdelivery to DHL at Heathrow. Delivery is then within about 24-48 hours of receipt of the DHL reference. Nearly at...
