Re: Leaving Ireland after getting the Irish Passport

The handbook they give you at the ceremony even says you're allowed to live anywhere in the EU, though this annual "intent to retain Irish citizenship" is annoying.

Just adding a data point - wife was naturalised 20th June, and the cert arrived yesterday, 4th August.

Re: Naturalisation certificate post ceremony timeframe

It's the Irish way!

When people tell me they will call back, it actually happens less than 10% of the time. Our TD tried but got ignored by them too.

Re: Naturalisation certificate post ceremony timeframe

Anyone try using the route for a lost certificate? They said it would arrive in two weeks so clearly it must have been lost in the post. But the form for a lost cert wants to know your original certificate number....

Citizenship phone number?

I'm trying to talk to a human at citizenship and thought I'd try phone. In 2019 I was able to do this but it looks like they removed their phone number, it's not on https://www.irishimmigration.ie/how-to-become-a-citizen/contact-citizenship/ . I was able to dig up an old phone number (062 32500) but...

Re: Naturalisation certificate post ceremony timeframe

It's helpful to realize that the dark side of "sure it's grand" is that nobody can do their damn job. Nobody ever calls back, everyone is incredibly late (if they show up at all), and if you want a job done well you hire an immigrant.

Re: Naturalisation certificate post ceremony timeframe

How many people from the 20th still waiting? My wife is still waiting and it's getting absurd, she also has no current IRP (she renewed 2 months ago but still no card). This is a bit of an issue since we're moving to the Netherlands in 2 weeks. The stupidity, laziness, and incompetence on the part o...

Yes, it was embarrassing for the department since they hadn't bothered to publish a form in Irish.

Re: Naturalisation certificate post ceremony timeframe

To be fair an Irish person (which you are now!) would be hassling their TD to get on this. Denying citizens their rights because the immigration department is incompetent is unacceptable.

Re: Remote work for non-Irish base employer while on stamp 4, reckonable residence?

Even if you were an Irish citizen you'd need to set up either your own company or an employer of record. In the latter case you're an employee of an Irish company who consults with the US company. I did this myself for the last 5 years, it was fine.

Re: Citizenship Applications From 2021 Pending Approval

Well there goes my sneaky plan to save €950! It is the certificate of naturalisation that confers citizenship, not the oath. IRISH NATIONALITY AND CITIZENSHIP ACT, 1956 14.—Irish citizenship may be conferred on an alien by means of a certificate of naturalisation granted by the Minister. 15.—Upon re...

... Couldn't they also possibly send approval and invite to ceremony in one go and just not issue the cert till the 950 is paid? Hah, that raises an interesting question. Once you take the oath at the ceremony, you are an Irish citizen, full stop. What happens if you then refuse to pay the €950? It...

FOI refusal?

My wife applied for an FOI on her application (July 2021) and in the response they refused to give her the application (144 pages) or correspondence (3 pages). They cited section 515(1)ii . The weird thing is that I did an FOI for my own application 3 years ago and got a couple hundred pages back, w...

Re: Dec 2022 ceremony to and from

I did not ask you to do anything. But if someone went already they know what it is like on those dates. Is it busy, best way to get there, how long ceremony is. If I have to take two days off work, my manager will not be happy, it makes mess for the team schedule. I have a child in school and am si...
