There are reports of successful application of what you described above; it does not have to be 6months ---> 2years ---> 5years etc.

As replied more than once by @zimba, discretion is basically what it says, there is no way for one to evaluate the chances when you are not the decision maker.
Provide the evidence of such contexts as much as you can and hope for the best.
