You can send a letter to them for confirmation, but I suggest seeing a solicitor's opinion first. If the officer made a mistake, that is a great way to sort out your permission quickly.

That should be enough of a proof that he is of a good character and not a serial killer who kill stay quiet for 5 years and only start killing again after exactly 5 years.
