Expired passport for passport application

Does anyone know if you can send an old expired passport as part of a new Irish passport application? I need to keep my current passport in case I need to travel for work which is often the case.

The form body itself has not changed from my own review, There are some wording changes between page 1 and 17 and page 36. I am planning to change the first 17 pages and page 36 and send. They also now require a checklist to be completed and attached. Seems unfair to quietly open a new portal and up...

My application was just about to go in the post... and i noticed a new form and web portal
