Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Department of foreign affairs is currently hiring for positions in Dublin (with a closing date of June 4)... hoping that’s a good sign of the FBR office returning in June.... Well the first stage of the Irish coronavirus reopening starts tomorrow May 18, so we'll see. If the office doesn't open tom...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I also couldn't login with my original profile or even reset my password (Brexit Irishman). So I created a new account! I'm an April 2019 (late April) applicant. No word yet from Dublin. Although when I called them before Christmas they said April 2020 would be realistic. Hoping Corona virus doesn'...

Thanks very much, that's a great help. i phoned the FBR helpline and they confirmed I could get a GP letter as you suggested and so I will pursue this now.
Good luck! Hope the rest of the application goes smoothly.

Re: Foreign Birth Registration documents required

Greetings. I wonder if anyone reading this can help me with the following: I am a Brit, born and raised in England applying to register my foreign birth in Ireland prior to applying for an Irish passport due to Brexit. My maternal grandmother was born in Ireland (Wexford). Neither of my parents wer...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

This doesn't apply to my situation, but just out of curiosity, does anyone know how a grandparent or parent having renounced their citizenship would affect FBR? I noticed when filling in the online application that it asked whether they ever renounced their citizenship, but it doesn't say it's a dis...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

2nd question regarding FBR My grandads Irish death cert said his marital status was ‘widowed’, which isn’t true, he and my nana actually divorced, he moved back to Ireland and she ultimately outlived him by 10 years or so. When the FBR application asks about the grandparent, it asks his marital sta...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Do I pay the 300 Euro application free, then print out the application form with my witness' signature to send along with the rest of the documents? Or is the 300 to be paid after the documents have been sent? It just confuses me why it says I need to have collected all the documents before complet...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Got the 'application received' email today, Feb 3.

Very glad to get this email so quickly, didn't want to be worrying whether it had arrived for the next few months.

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Well I finally sent my documents today, January 29th. Thanks to those who answered my questions, it was very useful being able to get information from others who have done the same process. I'm certain I have done everything that is within my power to do, time to relax about it for 9-12 months. Good...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Well, my application process just gets more and more painstaking. The Registrar that produced the death certificate for my grandfather's recent death has made a typo in his first name that no one picked up on at the time of entry. The first name has an extra letter, despite them spelling his name co...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Had the appointment with my witness today. The instructions for what the witness has to actually write aren't particularly clear online or on the application form, but here's what I had them do: - Wrote 'I certify this is a true copy of the original document' and signed, dated and stamped mine and ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I figured I would post this here in case anyone else ever has the same issue: After speaking again to the FBR helpline, I found it that if a parent or grandparent in the application does not have a current ID to include, then instead you can submit a letter from their hospital or GP which states the...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Well, my grandparent's birth certificate just arrived, ahead of schedule. The Irish register office is much quicker than the UK one it seems! One issue, however: The middle name for my grandfather listed on my father's marriage and birth certificates does not appear on my grandfather's birth certif...
