Sorry for bumping again, but again, this might be useful - I emailed the UKBA at one of their citizenship accounts, and they confirmed that it IS OK for the professional referee to live overseas.

A bit more info on this, as it might be useful to people - we applied by post with a professional referee, an American, who lived in the US, and it was fine. We got the approval letter exactly two weeks after posting. Also, over a month ago I emailed the UKBA asking this question, and they finally r...

Sorry for bumping, but does this look OK? Want to avoid something silly happening like them treating it as a name change, when it's just a formatting thing. They must have seen it before, surely?

Referees and convictions - clarification

Hi, I wonder if someone could provide a bit of clarification about naturalisation referees and convictions, just to see if I have this right. The guidance says: We will not accept a referee who has been convicted of an imprisonable offence during the last 10 years (unless that conviction can be disr...

Also, one of the referees may be moving house soon - if it happens while the application is being processed, does my wife just write to the HO to tell them?

Referee question

Hi, my wife is doing her naturalisation application soon, and one of her referees qualifies by being British and over 25 (we have someone else as the "professional" referee). The form asked for her to put her "age and profession", so she put her profession as "homemaker" as she's a stay-at-home moth...

Surname on certificate/passport

My wife has ILR and will soon be eligible for naturalisation. She has a surname with a second capital letter in it - like McDonald or LeBlanc - but on her US passport a space is added - i.e., MC DONALD or LE BLANC. This seems to be a standard thing on US passports with names like that. It's also for...

Re: Call to UKBA

Just called UKBA to check if my application has been allocated with to a case worker and the answer was "Not in the system". Further the lady told me that it is unlikely that the October files will be opened this year as September Bio Invitations started showing up just few days back with Christmas...

Visa Debit / Delta payment

Hi, we're sending an ILR form and not sure what to put as the "card type" for payment. I know they accept Visa Debit cards, but we're not sure whether to tick "Visa / Electron" (which I think is a credit card?) or "Delta" (which I think has been phased out and replaced by the Visa Debit). Does anyon...

FLR/ILR forms section 12 - help!

We're a bit confused by Section 12 on the ILR forms. It asks for the applicant to sign to give consent for the UKBA to check their bank or utility details, and then for joint account holders to sign - as her partner I've signed that bit, as we have joint utility bills. It's the third one we're not s...

Just one more question! It may be that due to the timings of things, the post, etc., my wife's last statament will be 4 or 5 days over a month old when we send the application. Her account has a high balance (as I said, it's really savings), and all my documents will be recently dated, so that shoul...

Those guidelines are not new Rules - they're just new guidance issued to ECOs to help them assess whether a relationship is genuine, which was always, and still is, one of the requirements. If you read the IDIs, it's not a checklist - they assess everything in the application, so they wouldn't have ...

Thanks Greenie! Also, due to switching from online to paper statements and making a request, the oldest of my wife's three statements (US account) just came as an A4 printout, no logo, but with a cover letter from the bank with the logo. It isn't an account that any income goes into or any bills are...

ILR maintenance question (old rules)

We're doing my wife's ILR soon, and I've noticed that in the last three months we've spent a bit more than I've earned. This is really due to a couple of vacations and trips, as we tend to pay off our credit card bills in full. We have a lot of savings between us and my income is comfortably above t...

when did your wife join you. If she has joined you in this country before 9 july 2012, then you do not have to worry about Financial requirement section of FLR(M). Also, the maintenance requirement still stands i.e: £800 points in the bank account for last 3 months. This is a family route applicati...

Re: hi

hi all, are these changes going to affect Set M applications? No, but it looks like it affects what happens if you're refused SET(M). If you're refused but still qualify for the old FLR(M) (I guess if you have unspent convictions), you'll be given FLR(M) under the old rules. If you're refused but a...
