Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Does anyone know if posting to the UK is still being delayed? I recently received my passport card and passport book from Dublin 3 and 4 days after posting so I would say there are no delays. A few weeks earlier, my passport application took 7 days to get from the UK to Ireland. The Royal Mail trac...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I don't want to turn this into an Adoption thread, but the conclusion you have come to is totally and utterly wrong. You're mother is not treated as "born in Ireland", s.11 INCA *does not do this* Where I think you're going wrong is that you think "Irish Citizen" means "Irish Citizen". It doesn't.....

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

HI Everyone, Entirely new here! I tried to get an answer from the FBR office but they referred me to their webpage which is what I had the question about! My grandfather was an Irish citizen born and raised, however my mother was born in the UK. So while she is entitled to Irish citizenship she doe...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

My mother was born in Scotland in 1913.She was adopted in Scotland in 1913 by Irish born parents(born 1880s). Prior to 1930 in Scotland adoption was informal -there are NO records. I have birth marriage and death certificates for her adoptive parents and birth parents + My mother's birth certificat...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I'm living in an actual nightmare. It took almost 29 months for my FBR certificate to arrive after application. Now Royal Mail have LOST my passport application, which contained my birth certificate and my FBR!! Does anyone know how much it will cost to get a replacement and how long I'll have to w...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Hi all! I am going to soon be posting my Dad’s passport application (it will be his first Irish passport and we are applying from the UK). Are we able to send this tracked by Royal Mail now or is it recommended to send another way? Apologies – I appreciate this isn’t exactly a FBR question (still w...

Re: Lost documents by Royal Mail

For those of you having problems with Royal Mail, have you tried putting your tracking number into the Irish An Post tracking portal? My passport application took a week to arrive in Dublin and during that time, there were no updates on the Royal Mail tracking page. Five days after posting, I starte...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Not strictly FBR related but might be of interest to UK-based FBR applicants as many go on to immediately apply for a passport due to Brexit. In a previous post I detailed the hassle I had to get my passport application in the post. Other members have also mentioned similar difficulties. I'm pleased...

Re: Irish Passport application and copy of birth certificate

Have you actually submitted your “certified copy” in a passport application and they told you it wouldn’t be accepted, or Did you contact them, via email or something to ask if they would accept your “certified copy”? If it’s the latter, I think what you’re calling a “certified copy” may actually b...

Re: Irish Passport application and copy of birth certificate

Hi, I recently got on the foreign births register and have now applied for an Irish Passport. My birth certificate is certified copy of the original entry and is what I used to get on the FBR in the first place - its been fine for everything in the UK, marriage, etc. The Irish Passport office says ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Regarding posting from UK to Ireland at around midday the post office refused to allow me to send a letter to Ireland without a customs declaration (this is insane) I returned a few hours later with the customs declaration attached & was told it wasn't necessary and they accepted it as track & sign...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I also have finally received my fbr after 30 months waiting. I'm delighted but again it's in my maiden name so I'm imagining this is correct? I have sent an email to query it. In some respects it’s the equivalent of a birth certificate so yes, maiden name. See the general queries section of the FAQ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Hi everyone, Bit confused/worried that my timescale doesn't seem to be matching up with everyone else. Sent documents for joint application with my brother November 2021 and received no confirmation. (Started application September 2020 but COVID closed the office before I could send docs) Got addre...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Hi there! It's exciting to see how fast things are moving along! I applied in late August and had a couple questions: First, I'm just wondering about the dimensions of the envelope the FBR certificate comes in. Is it folded, regular letter size, or a bigger envelope? The former would fit in my mail...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

So, my FBR journey came to an end today with a gentle plop of an envelope through the letterbox. Just shy of 2 1/2 years from start to finish. For those interested, the certificate is printed on watermarked, decorative paper with a couple of embossed stamps and a laminated photogaph. It also has a h...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Some of you might have noticed that the DFA webpages state "Due to the current Royal Mail industrial action, we have temporarily suspended posting passports and documentation to Great Britain and Northern Ireland with effect from December 12th. We will keep this under review." I contacted the DFA to...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

So a slight update on my joint application with my brother. He has been approved and I’m yet to hear anything about mine. I’m miffed as to how this is possible seeing as they would surely have been processing both application concurrently. He didn’t tell me what date he got the approval on so I’m n...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

1. The subject of the email had been changed to include my name, FIRST MIDDLE LAST, but I changed my name by deed poll in 2013 (docked off surname and replaced it with my middle name, so now only have FIRST and LAST names) Should I be concerned about point 1 above? My email was also addressed to th...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I received my confirmation of address email on 4th November after my docs were received on 16th September 2022. Yesterday marked 3 weeks since the email. Unfortunately I’m still waiting for the congratulations email. Somehow these last three weeks have been an even more painful wait than the 26 mon...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Apologies if this has been answered before but I don't see a definitive answer in the thread. My FBR certificate is on it's way to me and I am gathering documents for my passport application. If I use a bank statement as a proof of address, does it need to be an official copy of the statement, mail...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Hi all, Does anyone have any idea of how long it takes to hear from the fbr.urgentqueries email address? I reached out to them around a month ago, and I’ve sent a number of chasers. I’m a March 2020 applicant, my documents were formally received in Balbriggan on the 23rd of March 2020. Unfortunatel...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Yeah, that'd be nice, but no, there's no shortcut. You have to send it back. Ideally, wouldn't it be nice if you could pay for the passport up front with the FBR application fee and get them both done at the same time? Simon Coveney, if you're reading this, here's another way to streamline the proc...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I and my two sisters are applying for citizenship and wanted to know if we apply as separate people but use the same documents with each of our application numbers on the covering letter...
