I spoke with someone at the Foreign Births Registry helpline and they stated that citizenship isn’t considered official until the applicant attends the naturalization ceremony in Dublin. Anyone have any comments or experiences with that?
The person that told you that is an "eejit"

Quick question for UK people who received their FB certificate, did you actually need to sign for it or did the postman just push it through your letterbox?
If it fits through the letterbox it just gets posted. I havent "signed for" any post since 2020.

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Received my certificate today! I changed my name 12 years ago via deed poll which I submitted as part of my application, with ID etc. but where it says “full name” on the certificate they’ve put my original birth name which I obviously no longer go by. Can anyone confirm if this is normal? Yes, unf...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Hi all, Long-time lurker - this thread's been so useful, so thanks for all your answers. I recently got my FBR certificate and I'm ready to apply for my Irish passport. My dad wants to get his too, and since most of the documents needed will be the same, it'd be great to save on time and postage if...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

My great grandfather was born in Wales. My father registered on the FBR in 1989 and I was born in 1985. Unfortunately your Irish citizen parent needs to be registered before you were born. So any children before 1989 would not be eligible. But those after 1989 would be eligible for foreign birth re...

When they start physically processing your application. The application sits in storage as they work through backlogs. Then some type of jun...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Perfect, thankyou. We're you granted entry onto the FBR with it worded like that? Sadly it is what it is. I knew this might be difficult as I am estranged from that side of the family. I'm just grateful that there is a workaround of sorts even if it isn't the most ideal situation. Yes, within 3 day...

Hi everyone I have been following this thread closely as I submitted my documents in January of this year and they were received in February. Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Does this mean that sometimes they will not let you know when additional documents have been received? I sent mine via DHL and I got proof of delivery over a week ago, but heard nothing from foreign births. Correct. Unfortunately when they are backlogged it seems they dont consistently let people k...

Does the 'Application Received' email mean that the documents have been received or are they separate emails?
'Documents received' (if they even bother letting you know) is a different notification than 'Application received'. They are separate emails.

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I finally received my FBR certificate today! Just a quick question, if anyone knows please. It's listed as my maiden name and I've had my name changed to my married last name over 20 years ago. Is this because it would have been my birth name? Or is this an error and I need to have it fixed? It say...

Re: Passport Application Discussion 2022

Applying for the passport... Paid online, but the next step is to send documents. 1. Where to send them? 2. What's cover page? 3. Where to do Identity Verification Form? Go to local Garda? At the end of the email "Passport Application Confirmation" there is a clickable link that directs you to the ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Of course as a pro-European British citizen of Irish descent I'm very glad that Ireland offers this to us, but what does Ireland get out of this? Are there any "strings" attached to citizenship? I remember when I got my US green card there was a line in there saying that should it be required I cou...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

you can search the GRO index online using your parents marriage certificate info. Your fathers name, age & name of his father will be on it. If your father was 25 on the certificate you just count back 25 years when searching birth records (with his mothers maiden name also should help narrow it do...

We do have an address that we will be staying at, it will be our permanent address for the first while we are in the UK. I'm wondering though if you have to provide proof of address in the application verse where the passport will be sent. I'm not sure what is all required as you need your FBR deta...
