Re: Advice on excessive absence

My wife applied (3yr married to British Spouse) and was over the allocated days by a fairly significant amount due to the fact I was on an international assignment in France and we moved the whole family over. We wrote a covering letter to explain, plus I got a letter from my company to back it up a...

Re: Qualifying Period - Applied 5 days early

If you read this forum, you will see many people in a similar situation. It would appear that the HO is now giving people the opportunity to have their applications reconsidered from a date that guarantees they meet the criteria of physically being in the UK 3 or 5 years previously. Plus, what have ...

Re: Passport received but documents missing after 3 weeks

I believe you just use your original Passport PEX number to track the documents with TNT once you have received your passport.

8 days and counting for my wife. Whilst she's relieved to have received her British Passport, her French and naturalisation certificate are still nowhere to be seen....

Re: Naturalization: Is resident status violated if absence was greater than 180 days at a stretch?

From what I see, the only area that 180 days is even mentioned is during the absences in the final year which you do not even fall into. If you do go down the avenue of requesting discretion, are you able to justify the 386 day absence? If that's the case then the 180 days (if such a thing exists) w...

Re: Continous Residency Requirement

We had the same issue but out of the country for different reasons almost 900 days so really pushed the limit. We specifically asked for discretion in this matter and included any evidence and reasons for the absences. In regarding our estate, the covering letter included that we had bought a house ...

Re: Over 740 days absence, less than 900 days

Hi Assignment was with a private company but working on a contract for Galileo (EU / ESA GNSS). Brexit kindly (!) saw a rather abrupt end to that which is why we found ourselves back in the UK. Ironically it gave my wife a chance to obtain citizenship as we never considered it before we left for Fra...

Re: Over 740 days absence, less than 900 days

Can confirm my wife gained citizenship with absences pushing 900 days. She accompanied me on an international assignment in France for 2 years so we applied for discretion in that matter and provided letters from my employer to confirm. I cannot say with certainty, but if your UK business requires y...

Re: Wife Rejected Citizenship - Next Steps

Quick update - wife received confirmation of her British Citizenship today! Absolutely thrilled and relieved to have got it.

No mention of whether she got it via 6(1) or 6(2) but I guess that's irrelevant now. Citizenship ceremony booked for next week too!

Re: Wife Rejected Citizenship - Next Steps

Firstly, you're right "rejected" is a bit of an overreaction. If anything after reading some of the horror stories of being flatly rejected with no hope I was pleasantly surprised that options to get the application approved were present to my wife. That's very interesting for the Eurotunnel informa...

Wife Rejected Citizenship - Next Steps

Morning Everyone Some background to my wifes application. She's a French national, first moved to UK in 2000 until we moved to France in April 2016 with my work for the European Commission. Brexit saw an end to my work in France in June 2018 so we returned to the UK 1st September 2018 and have been ...
