Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Yes, that confused me too - It seems they push people via their websites towards the HSE to issue birth certs (I presume it's to take the load off the GRO itself). But you can order from the GRO directly, as normal.

Re: FBR Refusal - Review/Appeal timescale

I've had a quick look and it might just be 90 quid.....a court order isn't always needed. https://www.gov.uk/correct-birth-registration/how-to-apply My birth certificate has two lines for fathers name......when I first saw that, what came out of mouth would have made a builder blush. It can cause pr...

Re: FBR Refusal - Review/Appeal timescale

I've noticed that quite a high percentage of people applying through the adoptive route have a biological route as well (hmmmm).....but choose to go down the adoptive route for reasons just like this - the paperwork doesn't have gaps in it and there's less to 'prove'. Anyway, I think you have one op...

Re: FBR Refusal - Review/Appeal timescale

Just checking I've understood correctly - your applying based on your Biological Grandfather i.e. your adoptive grandfather is not born in Ireland?

There's a reason the father is not named on the birth certificate, it's really common - It takes them out of the loop regarding the adoption.

Re: Adoption/FBR/RICA - confusion

Mine was stamped all over the place, I'm not sure what the AAI will make of that, but, as that is what the court gave you, that's what you've got. Might be worth, at least asking, how to get it stamped just incase.

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Just for the record, I have made no statement regarding my status, bar being a S.11 INCA citizen.....for a very good reason - Adoptions can get complicated, Irish adoption law is very complicated, and what applies to me may not apply to another. I assume your adoptive parents were married and you we...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Hello. I've found this thread so helpful, but I have a couple of questions I'd love to gauge opinions on. We are finally applying for our kids' FBR (they were born in the US and are citizens). My husband was born in London and has an Irish passport/FBR (lost to time). We've applied for a copy his F...

Re: Adoption/FBR/RICA - confusion

Ah cool - You instincts are right, they were very insistent that I send an original (i.e. officially issued) order. Definitely no photocopies. At the time I was really worried about loss, as it was the only copy I had, but it came back safely.

Re: Adoption/FBR/RICA - confusion

Just to confirm corky i've done exactly as you said and hope you had a good holiday! While waiting for FBR to return certs i've found the court (it moved, twice, since 1984), been sent a A64 form to fill out. That's going off for the court order certified copy. The lady I spoke to on email seems to...

Re: Adoption/FBR/RICA - confusion

I'm stuck with phone for internet. Hence reply limited. Taking a step back. Your an Irish citizen under s.11 INCA. That's it. It makes no distinction between type of Irish citizen parent. You adoptive parent is an s.6 citizen so your S.11. end of. My adoptive father was an Irish citizen by descent a...

Re: Adoption/FBR/RICA - confusion

Hi, The pre-75 counselling stuff is for your records held by the council. The court order is totally sepearate i.e. Even if pre-75 you don't need it for that, it's a matter of public record. Best place to start is the court, and if it no longer exists, other courts in the area or https://www.nationa...

Re: Adoption/FBR/RICA - confusion

Hi, You are ineligble for FBR on the basis you're already a citizen, that's it. Drop the FBR application. But as it's a foreign adoption, it not so much that you skip a step, you go through a different route. FBR for normally born people, RICA for adopted. But.............Are you saying that you hav...

Re: Adoption/FBR/RICA - confusion

OK, you're getting put through the tumble dryer like I was. I assume your adoptive Grandfather was born on the Isle of Ireland, and his child adopted you? If that is the case, then you are an Irish Citizen under Section 11 of the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act. So the short version is, you ap...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Hayley I'm in exactly the same situation as you. Infact I've just sent all my documents off to FBR today then re-read everything and realised I didn't have a court order, just my mums birth certificate and new birth certificate with her adoption details I.e. my Irish grandad on it. This was in 1956...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I had an original copy of the court order - But I've looked into how I would get a copy. The court still exists, and it seems they're depositing the records with the local council. Have a look here:- https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/information-management/manage-information/places-of-deposit/res...

Re: Foreign Births Registration through grandparent - does parent need to register first?

You've ticked the wrong box.

"Important: Please note that this question relates to how the PARENT acquired Irish citizenship"

Tick:-

"Born abroad to a parent born in Ireland"
