I am presumimg there are two different applications, its possible that they have been dealt with separately. Best to wait for another week before calling them.

SC takes 7-10 days, OCI will take about 8 wks, on postal application. This is standard. If you apply in person this decreases by2-4 wks as the maximum delay is in registering.

The only option without OCI is the one you mentioned.
Apply for OCI as soon as you get British PP. Turaround time if done in person is 4 wks, so it should be ready by the time you return after your first visit. Only other option is to apply for OCI in person from Delhi, India while you are there.
