I got PIO for my 2 year old and it is valid for 15 years and there is no need for renewal every 5 years when renewing passport. OCI needs renewal every 5 years when renewing british passport. So i think PIO is better in that way.

Collected the PIO card today from HCI valid 15 years. They asked for the baby's passport for proof. Don't think you will need it if sent by post though.

Indian passport or registration NOT needed for MN1. I've registered my one year old recently and got approval without any certificates. You just need to send birth certificates and parents ILR. I would recommend NCS as you don't need to send originals.

PIO application for minor takes around 4 weeks and costs you £112. I've applied for my 1 yr old on 13th March at HCI London and the collection date given to me is 10th April. I think with OCI, your children will still need to get NRI seats which is too expensive. So not a perfect solution if you are thinking of your kid to be a Doctor. :-)
