Villette, Your daugher is a British Citizen - you could've applied for her British passport while you were in Brazil, and in the 6 months before you travelled to the UK, she would've received it and could have entered the UK without a visa. You can still do the same, send her passport application (a...

My wife and I became naturalised British citizens back in 2011 - we were both born out of the UK and neither of our parents have British nationality . Our daughter was born in the USA last year. We directly applied for her British passport through the IPS office in Washington. We had to send our ori...

NewtoThis, I'm copying a reply I sent to someone else a few months ago, they had a similar query to you and my situation was the same: quote: Our numbers of days away were very high for a number of reasons. I got my UK work permit while assigned by company to Egypt. So, at the time of ILR, the first...

Call the same number, ask them for a private ceremony. They've miost likely received notification of your naturailisation, so they'd be able to tell when they can fix a ceremony for you.

I think cost differs according to council, I think mine was 60 pounds.

In summary, yes it is 6 yrs unless u're here as a spouse to a UK citizen. There two distinct milestones... 5 yrs after landing, you are eligible for Indefinite Leave to Remain, which, I guess is as good as naturalisation, minus the passport (and claim to British nationality); you no longer need a vi...

Re: Applied jointly but kids got citizenship letters directl

children don't attend ceremonies. Were they born in the UK? Kids don't attend the oath ceremony, but their naturalisation certificate gets sent to the local council all the same, not mailed to the parents home; you can go and pick them up anytime. Unless there is a specific urgent need, most parent...

Shawn, In simple terms, the UKBA don't care about what other passports/nationalities you carry. On the successful completion of her naturalisation application she would get her passport back. In fact, she could simply apply through the Nationality Checking Service where the local council will check ...

At UK immigration on landing, if they ask you for purpose of visit - clearly state you've come back to live here. Do not say anything that may give the impression this is just a flying visit.

I did return to the UK a couple of times to attend meeting etc, but each year, the total number of days was under 30. After exactly 2 years had...

Can't tell you if they've stopped giving updates or not, but, I can assure you, any information you get from them is mostly useless. The only time you actually get a somewhat clear answer is when your application has been completed and the HO is about to send a letter informing you of the decision. ...

It somewhat depends to an extent on who you get at the post office (if you use check and send). In my case, i had taken quite a bit of documentation with me (marriage certs, birth certs, parents british pport copies). The PO retruned everything and for me and my wife only took: 1) Our oversea passpo...

NCS are extremely cautious, and in some cases, inconveniently so. The same applies to the passport check and send service through the post office. Depending on who you get on the day; they may know the actual rule; or insist on the certificate - in case of the latter; argue your case and as a last r...

Look at the naturalisation time line... 6 to 8 weeks would be a above average, 10-12 weeks is more the usual time frame. I suppose it also depends on what/how many checks the HO may want to do on a particular application.
