Thanks for the reply guys. Based on the above, I would rather go for a Tier 1 for myself from UK itself than become a dependent. If I go for a Tier 1 for myself, can my wife switch to a Tier 1 dependent from Tier 1 ?Going forward, I dont want to maintain 2 separate visas for us .
