Re: New policy regarding passport names for dual nationals.

I posted my messages somewhere further up the thread some years ago, and I came back to follow up as it's about time to start preparing for the renewal of our son's passport. (We have discussed the futility of this at length: if a person CAN change the name on their foreign passport at will, then th...

Re: Post Brexit Discussion

Having read some rather emotional and judgemental comments on this thread, I feel a very tiny bit unsettled. I voted "out". Did that make me a person who was so intellectually challenged that he could easily be "incited" by a certain politician whom a few here so passionately dislike? Do you really ...

Re: Passport refused - uncancelled passport in maiden name

Sylwia, You've obviously done everything that you were supposed to do. I think they are just taking a p###. You can write to the head of the HMPO: Mark Thomson Director General, Her Majesty's Passport Office 2 Marsham Street, London, SW1P 4DF It's probably a good idea to use a recorded delivery and ...

Re: Passport refused - uncancelled passport in maiden name

If I remember correctly, I just wrote to the head of the passport office and that fixed the mess in the end (after a really long trail of incompetence), but I cannot say it works for everyone, and it isn't probably worth doing. I think the only realistic way forward for you at the moment is to have ...

Re: Passport refused - uncancelled passport in maiden name

Sylwia, Yes. We've been through that, too. We've got both of our kids registered in Poland. My mother-in-law went to the town hall and got them registered. I think my wife had written some kinda statement beforehand to nominate her mother as her representative (but I may be wrong). Once they were re...

Re: Passport refused - uncancelled passport in maiden name

Sylwia, We've "almost" got into a situation like that. Our son has Polish and Japanese passports and the latter has no middle name at all while the former has his Polish middle name. So, I wrote a ridiculously lengthy (and utterly absurd) letter like this: "(Quote) Date:####### To: Caseworker, HMPO ...

Re: British passport when in possesion of expired EU passpor

Why don't you simply cut the upper right corner of the cover page and punch a few holes through the machine-readable area to "cancel" it yourself? After all, it's expired and the Polish diplomats have apparently told you that it had already been "cancelled", anyway. I don't think it's a criminal off...

But consider this scenario: I get a EEA2 RC and do not bother extending the T1(G), subsequently for one reason or the other I'm unable to apply for EEA4 PRC... then is it possible to go back to the ILR route? I'm guessing not.. Correct. you cannot go back to the ILR route unless you're prepared to ...

Re: Switching from Tier 1 (G) to EEA Residence Card. Downsid

I understand that I should be able to apply for a Permanent Residence Card (which is equivalent to Indefinite Leave to Remain?) after having spent 5 years in the UK and also 5 years of living with the EEA family member. i.e. it does not matter when the EEA Residence Card itself was issued? For heaven's sake, stop blaming your wife!
It's your residence card and your application.
You're the one who's been here for over a decade, and not your wife.

Re: EU national. How to settle in UK despite possible EU exi

So when SU collapsed, people could get citizenship depending on which country after the collapse they were in? In most cases. For example, a good friend of mine is a citizen of Kazakhstan even though his father is Jewish and mother Russian. He doesn't speak Kazakh at all, for a start. The obvious e...

Re: Change in claiming Treaty Rights with no re-registration

To my understanding if I go down EEA3 route I will lock myself out from applying for a year from getting PR as from what I know one needs to hold PR for a year before being able to apply for naturalisation. You acquire your PR status automatically after 5 years of exercising treaty rights. EEA3 is ...

Re: EU national. How to settle in UK despite possible EU exi

People have short memories, indeed. Within my life time, Europe saw such changes in a massive scale. When the Soviet Union collapsed, everyone was basically allowed to live in the newly-independent states of their residence in at the time of independence. Whether they could automatically acquire the...

Re: Change in claiming Treaty Rights with no re-registration

The easiest way might actually be to bit the bullet and spend £55 (EEA3). After all, you were out of work for only three months and they may just fail to pick it up if you treat it as just a long and unpaid holiday. Did you apply for any job during that period? If so, you can attach a printout of yo...

Having spent loads of money to live here legally, I " usually " get a bit wound up by this sort of stuff, but for the sake of my love of Slavic Europe, here comes my thought experiment. The only way out as far as I can see is: 1. Get married in Russia, or perhaps Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova etc where ...

Re: ILR for EU wife of UK citizen. What am I doing wrong?

First of all, your wife is an EEA national and can stay here as she pleases. That's why she is not normally qualified for "leave". The UK government cannot arbitrarily give or take away her right to reside here. That means, she has two options. One is to reside here as your spouse entirely based on ...

Re: CAN YOU TRAVEL WITHOUT EEA4 APPLICATION?

Non-EU don't obtain PR status automatically. They need to apply using EEA4 form. No, that isn't true. Non-EU nationals also obtain PR status automatically unless they cease to be a family member before the end of the five-year period (divorce, etc.) Directive 2004/38/EC , Article 16: "1.
