Settlement and the future

Hi people.. with my wife and sons arrival imminent(sp).. I got to thinking about the future.
when my wifes 2 year settlement visa is up and we then go to ILR i believe, in the 2 years what sort of documentation should we build up for this process.

hi.. im looking into my wife opening a bank account.. she will be here on a settlement visa and i was looking at the halifax easy cash a/c but it says you have to be a uk resident and i assume this to mean uk passport holder..
does anyone have any uptodate info..

ok thanks.. i am happy with the family visit visa for now anyway.. obviously we did show enough evidence of intention to return after 6 months..we didnt just get the family visa so we could change to a settlement but if the custody was settled within the 6 months then we would like to change to sett...

Hi folks.. just a quick update.. we applied for a family visit visa for our son on 16 Feb and got a reply 9 march that it has been approved.. woohoo
should have it in a few days..
anyone know how dificult it will be to try and change to settlement visa during this 6 months?

of course a full hearing can take months where as papers take weeks usually, i thought i had gone the best way but waiting for another 6 months was just not going to work(personal reasons)

As far as i understand it the husband MUST be the wifes sponsor, i believe you can use family members to help support the visit financially with all the necessary paperwork.

I guess it differs from which country you apply but we recently did appeal on papers and we got a reply in approx 2 weeks by telephone, unfortunately we lost it but I hope you are succesful.

thanks for your input, i did wonder this myself but as the embassy official who telephoned my wife to say he hasnt won his appeal suggested this alternative i figured maybe its ok. update: we had a refual letter with the passports, so i am gutted, seems we didnt provide enough evidence of sole custody so im hoping we can appeal and supply what they need.. is that how it works?
