If you have been working for five years, then mark yourself as a worker on the application form and not as a student (even if that was your main activity and primary reason for being in the UK), and just supply the evidence for being a worker (employee). To be honest, I am not aware of any practical benefit of Permanent Residence for EU citizens. I would simply not bother in your situation.
