Re: General Discussion During Naturalisation Application Pro

Hi, I applied through the NCS last Wednesday 9 April 2014, on the basis of 5 years Ancestry + 2 years ILR. I have not yet had confirmation from the Home Office nor have they taken the fee from my account. Unfortunately due to family illness I have had to make urgent plans to travel next week. I have...

Re-declaration? (if not in the UK 5 years prior to applying)

Hi again, I was reading through the HO guidance on naturalisation (at ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/documents/policyandlaw/nationalityinstructions/nichapter18/ch18annexb?view=Binary ). I thought that I had to ensure that, on the date it my application is received by the HO, I must have been in ...

ILR and returning to the UK after 2 years

Hi all, I am on ILR and trying to apply for naturalisation, but if that is unsuccessful would like to know what my options are with ILR if I need to leave the UK again for a lengthy period of time. I have referred to the UKBA "Returning residents" advice (http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas-immi...

Days outside UK exceeding 450 or 90 in final year

Hi all, I am wondering whether any readers have some successful examples of naturalisation (AN) applications where special circumstances were included? In particular it would be good to know how they apply discretion to the residential requirements (no more than 450 days outside the UK, or 90 days i...

Residential requirements and special circumstances

Hi all, Firstly thanks for your contribution to these forums, I have found them really useful during previous applications. My question relates to naturalisation. I was intending to apply in 2014 and I had all the dates planned out. However, due to family illness I have had to leave the UK and I am ...

Question regarding timeline for BC application

Hi all, I have read all the application guidelines, Guide AN, and information on the UKBA website regarding eligibility for citizenship. I am a little unclear about one issue and am hoping that members can help me. I plan to apply for BC mid next year. I need to work out the timelines now because I ...

Advice please: lost Australian passport with ILR stamp

Hi I live in the UK, and am due to travel in a week for a 3-week holiday in Europe. I have an Australian passport, and it carries my Indefinite Leave to Remain stamp, which was issued in July 2011. Unfortunately it has been lost. I understand that I can visit the Australian Embassy in either London ...

This might be quite a stupid question, but do we have any idea of roughly how many ILR applications the Border Agency processes at a time (e.g. per week)? Perhaps this information could be obtained through FOI?

How does the UKBA monitor bank account activity?

Hi On the ILR SET(O) application, we sign a declaration at the back (Section 11: Consent for the UK Border Agency to Request Verification Checks) giving them permission to check the information we have provided with banks and utility companies. My question is, in checking financial activity, do they...

Hello, I can see that other people who applied around the same time as me are anxious, so I thought this might help... I applied on 24 May and got ack letter 26 May. Just updating on the outcome: The UKBA has now advised that I am eligible to work. I assume that is as a result of the badgering I did, or just that they caught up with the backlog and logged me on the correct database. I now have a record of my right to work, as well as the ack letter we all get in...

Hi enot_poloskun I'm not sure what category you are applying under, but the caseworker guidelines for ILR (UK Ancestry) advise the caseworker: "You may use discretion if there have been significant absences abroad and they were: • compelling ones of a compassionate nature, or • to do with the a...

Ancestry visa extension based on rejected ILR application?

I had understood that if an application on Form SET(O) for ILR based on UK Ancestry was unsuccessful, the UKBA may instead offer an extension of the UK Ancestry - Employment visa.
Does anyone have any experience of this?
Thanks.

Thanks Kitty.
Yes, they dismissed me on the day that my visa expired, so at that point I had not committed any 'breach' of contract.
I will follow up the appeal and post back here the outcome.
Thanks!

Yes, I've been employed by them for eighteen months. They were well aware of my visa situation, however I don't think they've come across this before (I am the only employee who is not a British national). The confused terminology they use in all their communications certainly supports this. Annoyin...

Yes, my employer claims that the acknowledgement letter is evidence of nothing, because it does not state what application it is acknowledging (though it does, it states 'Thank you for the application by the above-named (me) on Form SET (O)'. But I ran out of patience arguing that point). I was dism...
