Re: EU residency application - passport

1) Get a national ID card and use it to travel whilst the application is processed. Should be able to get one at the Embassy, my Embassy got me one within 2 weeks. (Or send the ID card and keep the passport if overseas travel is required). 2) Request your documents back. Usually takes 10 working da...

EU residency application - passport return?

A friend of mine is an EU national who has been working in the UK for many years. She wants to apply for permanent residency and then citizenship as she is worried about the implications of the Brexit vote. I understand the EU applications take up to six months and there is no premium service. Is th...

Re: Brexit and application fees that EU nationals will pay.

Assuming there's no general election and we have a continuation of the current government, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they introduced some sort of fee for EU citizens seeking ILR. I think this would be consistent with their general agenda on immigration. It's obvious that in the non-EU categ...

Re: Passport application process

1kiril rarely posts anything positive. :| As CR001 has already commented, you've submitted your application in the busiest pre-holiday season of the year, so I wouldn't be concerned. Ok I will try to be patient! I am slightly paranoid about anything involving the Home Office because with the first ...

Re: Passport application process

First adult passport can take 6 weeks. You applied 2 weeks ago. Suggest sit tight and be patient. It is also the busiest time for passport office in June/July with people renewing passports before their summer holidays. Yes, you will be required to attend an interview. The only time you do not atte...

Re: Passport application process

Anyone?? They've had my declaration form for almost two weeks now, and I've heard nothing. I've logged in to the online tracking system and it simply says 'declaration received, being processed'. Surely if there was a problem with how I completed the application they would simply send it back to me ...

Passport application process

I applied for my British passport on 7/6/16 (that's when I sent the declaration and documents - I completed the online form on 1/6/6). I'm a bit confused about the process from here. Is an interview always required? On the online system it says that the processing time will depend on whether you nee...

Thanks. His occupation is not on the list of approved professions, so I was a bit worried it wouldn't be clear how he met the criteria if he wrote that.

Passport - countersignatory

I have completed the online passport application and now just need to do the declaration form. My countersignatory is someone who has a knighthood - so he qualifies as a 'person with honours'. What should he write in the box which says 'Profession/professional qualificaitons/position or standing in ...

Re: Car Insurance with International Driving Licence

Dear mods, I understand you need to remove names when someone is clearly just shilling for a company, but it is really helpful to know which specific companies are interested in immigrants' business. Immigrationsboards.com cannot be seen to be permitting advertising of all sorts of non immigration ...

Re: Car Insurance with International Driving Licence

Just to say that thanks to the kind advice of jbminger, via PM, I've finally been able to find a company that will recognise my 20 years driving experience in my home country. I exchanged my foreign licence for a British one a few months back, and was at my wit's end as all the other companies I tri...

Re: Purchasing a property - getting a mortgage

Many lenders will not consider you until you have ILR but it really depends on the individual lender's rules. You need to ask around. I have a colleague who is on a Tier 2 visa who recently obtained a mortgage.

Re: Brexit better for non-EU migrants

I think they would simply impose the existing system for non-EU migrants on the EU migrants, making it equally difficult for everybody. Also, they would make it a lot more difficult to appeal immigration decisions on human rights grounds.

Citizenship ceremony

I had my citizenship ceremony yesterday. Not only did the officials not remind people to send back their BRPs, they specifically said that if you have holidays planned, you should go ahead and take them before applying for a British passport, as that process can take several weeks! Also, I'm not sur...

Re: Proof of residence covered by stolen passport

Re: How does it work?

They only contact you if there is a problem with your application - for example if they need further documentation - so the fact you haven't heard anything is nothing to worry about. It seems like most applications are taking about 4 months at the moment, but 5 months wouldn't be unusual.

Re: Citizenship ceremony timing

Thanks, that's a relief. Depending on how long the naturalisation application takes, I'm not sure I will have enough time to obtain a British passport before I need to travel.
