May be your insurance providers? Mine asked me to phone with update when I become BC, so the 'fact at the current time' is recorded.

The applicants ( your in laws) need to be able to demonstrate that they will be leaving the UK after the visit. Hence the burden is upon them. Remove yourself from the picture for a moment and work on what would she needed to have shown/included for a tourist visa. The GF BF angle would have hurt the application IMHO.

How confident is your friend, and are you, that he would get a visit visa without your sponsorship in any kind? Thousands of visitors to UK every year are not sponsored by family, relatives or friends.
