Well, I still see nothing smug there, but maybe I have just developed a thick skin in that regard. Anyway, I have to agree with trs2011 that it shows a lack of planning/interest not to check his/her mail after moving, or to change his/her address with HO in time. And yes - that is an extremely easy...

Thanks all. I've read the immigration guidelines for case officers and an extension can be granted, although I am aware that is a discretionary one. Also, the UKBA should have contacted me after I missed my ceremony (as per their guidelines) and did not, so they also did not follow their own guidel...

Wow, people can be heartless.

I'd give them a call and tell them what's happened over the phone. I've emailed before too and never gotten a reply so don't rely on that! Hopefully someone will be able to sort it and you'll get an answer soon.

Passports definitely aren't scanned or even checked at all when travelling on flights between the UK and Ireland. I think there's an section at the end of the application saying we agree to let them check our social security info or something like that? So presuming the absence of asking for permiss...

I also have to say I think £851 is a good price for British citizenship, if it is possible to put a price on it ... Even as a relatively broke student! I can completely understand wanting to know how your application is going but realistically given the numbers that are applying it isn't feasible to...

The IND policy document on EEA citizens makes reference to this: http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/documents/nisec2gensec/eeaandswissnats?view=Binary (pdf) "5.3 ... Citizens of the Irish Republic, whether exercising EEA free movement rights or not, are not normally subject to any form of immigration...

Calling UKBA

Hi,

I got the number for the UKBA on the website (0845 010 5200) but can never actually get to speak to a human. Nobody has ever replied to my emails either. Does anyone have a number for them where it actually goes to a person?
Thanks!!

Thanks for the responses! I have some more questions though about the form. Seeing as Irish citizens automatically have ILR do I need to fill out the section about exercising EC Treaty Rights seeing as I'm not really applying under that criteria but there's no section to account for the unique citiz...

It's purely a personal thing. I realise I get no extra legal benefits or anything - Just that I view my home as being the United Kingdom and would like to make it official.

Irish citizen applying for British naturalisation

Hi I have a question about when I can apply for naturalisation as a British citizen. From what I understand EU citizens must live in the UK for 5 years upon which they gain permanent residence, and then they must live in the UK for a further year with the permanent resident status ... so basically i...
