Many thanks for clarification but on the Homeoffice website it states degree holder, isnt PGD for 2 years is considered equivalent to Degree qualification in the UK. Thanks in advance. Just want be certain and affirmative in order to avoid any inconvenience in the future?

I am 100% sure that you don't need any covering letter. You will be fine as long as you have continued lawful residence 10 years. I have sent my extension application on 15/05/2012 and fee deducted on 22/05/2012. They took money exactly in 1 week time. I have paid via DR card.
