Re: Scottish Referundum

If Scotland votes YES, they might ask you to make clear where you intend to settle after citizenship. Not sure they'll be too favourable giving you a rUK passport if you want to make Scotland your home. Tricky situation and tough to call.

Re: British Passport application processing timelines (only)

[quote="wolex"][quote="InUkOnHsmp"]Hi Wolex, This is absolute rubbish. My wife's case was exactly the same, however I did not send any deed poll with naturalisation application, so her naturalisation certificate was in her old name. We applied for passport in her new name, attached a deed poll signe...

Re: I'm a professional dominatrix. Can I naturalise?

I don't think they'll have any issues with you being a professional dominatrix as long as you operate within legal boundaries. However your association with The Guardian might trigger red flags ;-)

Re: January 2014 - Naturalization Application Timeline

You definitely don't want to wait another year especially if you are in Scotland. Your wife may not be eligible for UK passport if Scotland votes YES in September referendum. I would seek professional advice from a solicitor.

Re: Application unfairly on hold - Help!

I can see your point. A lot of applicants have been caught out thanks to the misdeeds of a few. The Home Secretary Theresa May has defended the action saying that Home Office has the power to put in emergency measures when it detects serious fraud like this. I don't think there is much you can do ot...

Re: Application unfairly on hold - Help!

Sorry to hear that. There was a BBC panorama investigation which exposed wide spread fraud in the language tests conducted by ETS. In response, home office decided to set aside all applications submitted with TOEFL pending completion of their investigation. http://www.aoc.co.uk/download.cfm?docid=35...

Re: Application under processing - speeding conviction

Maybe you should write to the HO declaring this conviction before they find out when they come to processing your application. There is also the plus point that they'll process your application faster!

Re: Naturalisation application processing timelines (only)

That report also reveals that not only do complex cases get prioritised first, the simple ones are given to novices and cases dealt by novices have to be approved by a supervisor adding additional delay. The message is simple - if you have a straightforward application be prepared to wait longer tha...

Re: February 2014 - Naturalisation Application Timeline

So much heartburn and jealousy on show here! Who are we to decide how HO should process our applications? If they start prioritising applications based on 'entitlement' some people appear to posess (real or percieved), it is only going to add unnecessary delay to the process. Let's just take it as i...

Re: January 2014 - Naturalization Application Timeline

I think the clock starts ticking only after the fees are debited - that's when the application enters the caseworker queue. If your payment gets rejected the application is not in the caseworker queue until they get their grubby mitts on your dosh. The date of application is immaterial.

Re: November 2013 - Naturalization Application Timeline

Abusing HO personnel by calling them names is not going to help. They are not going to help if people start behaving rudely. That's one thing missing from the life in UK test - emphasis on politeness and it's importance to Britishness.
