Not Quite

Lets get certain things straight 1. Working in a low level(e.g. cleaner) job in UK is much more dignified than working in a dignified profession(e.g. IT) in a 3rd world country. Even in low level jobs, people are treated with much more respect. 2. A low level job in UK doesn't mean cleaning floors (...

Try NatWest

Try NatWest (National Westminster Bank) I had similar problem on a student visa few years back. Barclays even asked me to deposit 2000 pounds to open an account, just too much for me then. Finally, NatWest not only opened a student account for me (with 0 minimum balance), no service charge but also ...

Immigration Bill Passed

This law was approved on 9th July by the Upper house of parliament after the lower house approved it on 1st July. However, they'd to scrap the points system (which would have made the scheme attractive to lot of people, just like Canada & Australia). http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/3880641.stm t...

Well, I am not planning to go for a "frivolous" application but I am claiming "Significant Acheivement" points. Just in case HSMP team doesn't think it as Significant, I will have to re-apply after another 6 months since I finish 4 years of work experience. (And I don't like to wait, even 6 months i...

Pension & Bonus

I am being paid a 15% pension allowance as cash-in-hand (as against paying to the Govt. plan, sort of a 401K). To my other local colleagues in Singapore, this is being paid directly into their Govt. pension account. I also get one-off year end bonus which is about 2-3 months worth of pay. Can I incl...

Thx for the comments, I too am planning to submit my payslips, atleast it will indicate that I am gainfully employed. Offbeat, just a critique to SNM's comment, the general thinking on pay level doesn't apply when comparing cross country pay rates, especially so in the IT field. e.g. Today, if I get...

Observation about HSMP applications

Some observations on numbers using LA_Mike's Sheet, I'm trying to estimate the potential benefit to UK economy due to HSMPs and also how long this scheme is likely to continue without any changes to the points and criteria (Still need to plug-in the economic numbers, will do soon). =================...

Re-application for HSMP after Refusal

Hi, Just wondering before applying for HSMP  If I apply now and my application is rejected, do they ask me to wait for sometime before re-applying. Does the rejection letter have a date or time period stated within which I cannot re-apply. 150 quid is the only casualty if no such time period a...
