Re: Starting my own company

Hi. I had incorporated a company but in my wife's name. I read the fine print, you're specifically not allowed to be a director of a company (FYI this was more than 4 years ago, may be different now). However, I didn't have any income in my company until after I got my ILR. No issues having started ...

Re: Passport Mixup

So after days of panicking, they call me back. They have my passport!! Asked them to return it. I should get it back before I fly out (fingers crossed).

Re: Passport Mixup

Yes and basically she said she can't tell why they asked for it. Just need to wait. Also, they have no record of receiving my current passport but she also said it's possible they didn't make a note of it. Such an awesome service.

Passport Mixup

Hi. I've been waiting 5 weeks for my passport and recently I got a letter a from HMPO asking for an "Indian travel document". Now this is extremely worrying - I have no connections to India whatsoever! This is extremely worrying not to mention scary. Seems like they mixed up application with someone...

Re: Passport application, additional docs requested 4 name c

Same thing happened to me. I just got off the phone with them and they said I should have kept "former names" as blank. Either that, or provide a driver's license with the new name.

Re: October 2014 - Naturalisation Application Timeline

Wow..how did you manage to get the ceremony on the 3rd? Camden NCS told me they didn't have any available till the 10th (when I'll probably be hung over from the Christmas party) so I won't be doing mine till the 17th.

Self Assessment - Newly Self Employed

Hi. I qualify for citizenship this month having initially got my ILR via Tier 2. Since then I've quit my day job and switched to being a contractor. Unfortunately I haven't done my self assessment yet. Does anyone know if there's something else I can do to meet the required documents for the applica...

That should suffice. I got my ILR (on Tier 2) 2 weeks ago. Mine was an odd case where my previous WP employer is no longer in communication. So I got an employment history record from HMRC and about 80% of my payslips for the first 2 years (my initial employer) and only the latest payslip for the cu...

Success at Sheffield - Dodgy WP employer -> Tier 2

Hi guys. My wife (my dependent) and I received ILR at Sheffield today. We were on work permit from 2008-2010, and on Tier 2 for the last 3 years. Our appointment was at 9am and we were out by 11:15am. Made payment, had documents checked, did biometrics and 45 minutess later it was approved :D I'm pu...

It's easy, I finished it in under 10 minutes (and I'm a uni dropout).

As someone said, exact dates don't matter as long as you know the rough order of events. Just read through the entire book and make short notes, even the bits you think you may know already.

The directors are currently still active with another "sister" company.

Employer possible breach of immigration laws

Hi. Can someone please tell me which email to use if I want to report an employer to the UKBA? workabuse@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk doesn't work any more.

Thanks.

Hi. Sorry about the re-opening an old topic, but will appreciate some advice. HMRC have been very helping in getting my NI/PAYE payments sorted, but it's not quite right. Firstly, it's missing some payments (I can chase them for it again). Secondly, it's under the wrong company name. I was sponsored...

Thanks. I'll try to get in touch with a solicitor.

Now that I think about it, one of my former colleagues didn't get benefits (she's British) because of the same reason. It seems like this was the case for all former employees. Such a messy situation :\

No, it doesn't look like it was paid. It's a case of tax fraud by the employer. I only received the letter from HMRC today. I'll be sending them copies of my payslip and P60 tomorrow.

Do you think I should go through a solicitor when applying for ILR or should I just try my luck at the PEO office?

National Insurance Payments - Applying for ILR under Tier 2

Hi. I first arrived in the country in September 2008 (work permit) and changed employment in mid 2010 (Tier 2) as the company was going under. My colleagues and I took the former employer to the employment tribunal for missed salaries (missed 2 salaries in Dec 2009 and Jan 2010). I was quite senior ...

Wow..we're on the same boat. I opened a limited company few months ago but then reading on the forums got me a little worried (I have 7 months to go for ILR). So I wrote a postal letter to UKBA so that they would reply in writing. They went on about the obvious rules regarding supplementary employme...

sushdmehta, another quick question. If I instead decided to extend my visa with my current employer, is that allowed? This part really confuses me in the rules: To qualify for the additional leave, you must have previously been given permission to stay for less than 2 years as: a Business and Commer...

Say I'm currently under Tier 2 and working 40 years per week. I can open a limited company and do after-hours contract work and get paid through dividends in my company. Or for that matter, generate revenue by selling by services online. That seems to be within the rules? I guess if I wanted to play...

sushdmehta, even though you can't be self employed, I think you can still run a limited company and do contracting. You'll need to pay yourself in dividends. Is my understanding correct?

Thanks..you seem to be quite knowledgeable in this field. Are you a lawyer or immigration consultant?
