Re: Evidence of presence in the UK (with the EU settled status)

To be clear, the rules mention no multiple postings on a single question or topic. https://www.immigrationboards.com/announcements/multiple-posts-will-be-locked-deleted-t5722.html Asking 2 or 3 totally unrelated questions on naturalisation is not the same question or topic. @cr001 If what you want i...

Re: Evidence of presence in the UK (with the EU settled status)

What a bizarre, non-sensical and counter-productive rule! Doing the opposite does not create confusion, it limits confusion by making information easier to access and to find! What you are saying is that you want one thread per applicant, regardless of how diverse and unrelated the questions of that...

Re: Evidence of presence in the UK (with the EU settled status)

I don't understand the question.

It is the same person who asked for my help.

But they are all completely separate points, hence the separate threads.

What does it matter if this question relates to the same person or not? Surely the answer wouldn't be different if this were a different applicant?

Evidence of presence in the UK (with the EU settled status)

Part 3 of the supporting documents is "evidence you were physically present in the UK" https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1085690/form-an-06-2022.pdf The document mentions letters from employers but does not mention P60s or tax records. Re: Can the spouse of a British citizen choose to apply as a non-spouse?

So can she put a note saying something like: I married Mr such and such on d-m-y; he is now a British citizen, but I am applying to naturalise regardless of my marriage status, as I meet the criteria for naturalisation on my own? Do you remember if you put in any specific note? Did you just say you ...

Can the spouse of a British citizen choose to apply as a non-spouse?

A person asked for my help - she has the EU settled status. Her husband is an EU citizen who obtained British citizenship after they got married but before Brexit. I understand that, normally, you need to have been a resident for 5 years, but this time is shortened to 3 years for spouses of British ...

Re: Naturalisation: when is it ever worth applying via an agent?

Yes, I should have been clearer: I know that applying through an advisor does not affect the outcome of the application. I meant if there are common pitfalls that an advisor might spot (before you submit the application) but that a layperson wouldn't, or if someone with EU settled status is such a s...

Naturalisation: when is it ever worth applying via an agent?

A family member asked for my help in sorting out her naturalisation application. We are trying to understand if it is ever worth applying via an agent, if it saves enough hassle / reduces the risk enough to justify the cost, or if spending that money makes sense only for the most complex cases. Any ...

List of absences: not required for EU reg certificate but required for naturalisation?

I understand that the online process for EU citizens to apply for a registration certificate - permanent residence does NOT require applicants to list every single absence from the UK over the last 5 years: https://visas-immigration.service.gov.uk/product/eea-qp However, it seems that form AN, the f...

Re: comprehensive sickness insurance if employed in the UK ?

I explained my reasoning for posting a separate question but you disagree. What can I say, you're the moderator - you win :) My humble opinion is that grouping every question of an applicant under the same thread is more confusing. Most applicants will have multiple questions, and not everyone else ...

Re: Exchange student in the UK = exercising treaty rights?

I see - thanks.
So she started exercising treaty rights when she started working, because at that point she didn't need private medical insurance any more.
The period as a jobseeker doesn't count for the same reason, ie because she didn't have private medical insurance.

Re: comprehensive sickness insurance if employed in the UK ?

If the mother can prove she was self-sufficient while in between jobs, would she still need to prove she had private medical insurance?

If yes, I can think of many thousand Europeans who will find, much to their horror, they are not, in fact, permanent residents.

comprehensive sickness insurance if employed in the UK ?

How about a mother who takes some time off work to look after a newborn? Eg if she has a 6-month employment gap (not maternity leave, but 6 months where she was unemployed) would she need to show private medical insurance for that period? And, if she didn't have private medical insurance for that pe...

First of all, I understand the rule about multiple posts being merged (http://www.immigrationboards.com/announcements/multiple-posts-will-be-locked-deleted-t5722.html ), but I am posting a separate topic because this is a totally separate question, unrelated to my other ones. Re: Question on residence requirements

Thanks for the clarification - very useful.

I don't understand why they introduced the requirement of getting the European permanent residence first, requirement which was not in place a few years ago,but of course it doesn't change the fact that these are the rules now.

Just so I am sure I have understood clearly: a European citizen wishing to naturalise must first obtain a certificate of permanent residence, then submit it along with the very same...

Re: Question on residence requirements

Of course I want to comply. That's why i asked what 'received' means precisely.

I dare deem this an idiotic rule which serves no purpose, but of course my opinion is utterly irrelevant and I need to comply - that goes without saying.

Proving residence if you hold a European PR certificate

A European citizen who wishes to naturalise must first obtain a document certifying permanent residence, whereas, until a while ago, he could apply directly. Let’s say that on 1-Feb-2017 I apply for the document certifying permanent residence since 1-Jan-2010, and I get it on 1-May-2017. When I appl...

Re: Online EEA PR and EU passport return service available

Thank you so much for finally providing examples like I had asked. My mind-reading abilities are not what they used to be (I am getting old..). Do all of these cases relate to people who first moved to the UK decades ago? I think for the last 10 years - possibly more - European citizens have not nee...

Re: Question on residence requirements

Practical point: let's say I am ready to submit my application on 1-Feb-2017, but I happened to be abroad from 3-Feb-2012 to 20-Feb-2012. In this case, I should wait till Feb 21st to send my application, otherwise I risk it will be received on a day for which, 5 years ago, I was abroad. Right? If it...

Re: Online EEA PR and EU passport return service available

Ha ha, very funny. I do know the meaning of 'jumping ship'. I fail to understand how it could possibly apply to this discussion. I said that a European passport cannot ever prove residence in the UK. You beg to differ but you have failed to explain why; you have failed to show a single case whereby ...

Question on residence requirements

The AN booklet mentions on page 5: The residence requirements: 1. You must have been physically present in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands on the day 5 years before the application is received by the Home Office. Is this a new requirement? I natural...

Re: Online EEA PR and EU passport return service available

No, you haven't. You have not clarified what jumping ship means, nor have you clarified when how or why a European passport can ever prove residency. The key is 'European'. The online process and the European passport return service (the subject of this thread) are both for European nationals only, ...

Re: Online EEA PR and EU passport return service available

The point remains that a European passport cannot prove residency, nor time away from the country. Do we agree on this? If we don't, could you please provide an example whereby a European passport would somehow prove residency?
