The attached might be of some help. It's the August 2008 NatWest Student Living Index by UK City: http://www.rbs.com/media03.asp?id=MEDIA_CENTRE/PRESS_RELEASES/2008/AUGUST/11_STUDENT_LIVING The article mentions average weekly student expenditures for a few cities. Simple - Keep looking for an employer who doesn't discriminate against you for being HSMP. When you find a good one - take the job. Reward that employer for accepting you for who you are, and work very hard for them utilitizing the many skills you no doubt have. Keep a list of all these companies th...

I think most Americans I know would be OK with that. Bad things have happened in Europe too - would be nice if both US and Europe became safer places.

Well, it certainly could be in the best interests of the economy & country. Especially if we are allowed to volunteer our time to help out a political party of our choosing. Does anyone know at this very early and sketchy date if: 1. Non-EU immigrants are allowed to volunteer to help out political p...

Someone had questioned why people are going for a JR, it is being done to oppose injustice like this. All: If you oppose retrospective changes, meaning after-the-fact changes that affect those already in country on HSMP, please contribute to the current JR against retrospective changes. The JR is s...

I'm one of those who actually did want to become a British Citizen. However, I'm still concerned about the ramifications of the new probationary period on getting a mortgage or applying for a job. Don't care about benefits, but I was planning on buying a house after ILR. House buying plans may have ...

AK has advised us that this money is for legal payments for the Judicial Review. In other words, donations will go to the lawyers working on the JR. To the best of my knowledge, this is NOT a scam, and Amit is very contactable. The forum organisers contact us regularly via e-mail, phone, and posts o...

Can't help wondering if that £80K change will be applied "retrospectively" ("Retrospectively" = Anyone already in the UK under HSMP at the time of any HSMP extensions)

Not that it affects me - I came here by myself, no dependents. I've never even used the free education or NHS here.

It's ironic. I like to think of myself as a "reasonable reader". And yet no matter how I twist the words and phrases around, I find it quite impossible to arrive at the Tribunal's interpretation of HSMP application questions 24.9 & 24.10. I would appreciate any help and advice that anyone here can offer. Vote Tory or Lib Dem? No seriously, all joking aside, the Labour government right now are cracking down on non-EU immigrant employees in the UK that are paid low wages, as well as the UK employers who employ them. For some reason, t...

Yeah, I see what you're saying. Everything's so sketchy and vague right now regarding WP and Tier 2. Unfortunately, nothing to do but wait and see where they ultimately decide to move the goal posts, and what new hurdles they'll require UK residents jump over.

My daughter has been offered work at a major hotel chain in England but I am concerned about the wages. They offer GBP 1000.00 PM. Much lower than the min. stated lower down in this forum. Will she survive on this? Provided she's legally allowed to work in the UK, I'd say it all depends on where in...

Current work permit holders may or may not fall under PBS tier 2 at the time of their extensions. Depends on whether their employer is or is not eligible to become a PBS "sponsor". Also may depend on things such as NVQ3 skill level, the Resident Labour Market Test (RLMT), and regularly updated lists...
