Re: Entering UK on EU passport, already naturalised

No guarantee, but it seems to me that the settled status is not getting cancelled when one naturalises; and then one can update the document linked to settled status (passport) - nowadays it is done online, no need to send them original passport. So if your settled status shows as valid and if you m...

Re: Citizenship Ceremony cancelled due to Covid-19

My mother had her ceremony today in Glasgow.
They called us last week to say that group ceremonies were cancelled, but they offered her a private one at no additional cost - and at the same time group one was supposed to be.

Re: Citizenship for soon to be 18 year old

He will not apply as "dependant", but as an independent adult on his own right. But he needs to show that he was in UK lawfully for 5 years. Since during those 5 years his lawful status wad derived from you (he was your dependant), it will mean he has to prove that you were in UK lawfully for 5 year...

Re: Tripple citizenship allowed??

As far as I remember it is Ukraine which has issues with its citizens acquiring another citizenship. So look into it, or ask your wife to do it. I think though that they are OK if it is a minor who gets 2nd/3td citizenship, so your daughter should be fine. UK does not care (I have 4 passports and ne...

Re: US Expat living in the UK - Filing US taxes

Ah, and there are two DIFFERENT filing obligations! One is tax return (IRS = US variant of HMRC) - where you report your income and figure out US income tax - much like in UK self-assessment. Another is FBAR, where you report to FBI all your non-US bank accounts with max in year amounts on them (and...

Re: US Expat living in the UK - Filing US taxes

I know of US citizens in UK who did not file US taxes for more then 20 years.. That said, US IRS is more and more after its citizens abroad (and in general, there is more and more of information sharing between countries etc.). So if you do not comply, your chances to get caught are not small. Howev...

Re: Naturalisation by discretion-absence more than 450 days

We just had a success with my 75 years old mother, who was out of the country for about 56o days. But: She was in UK practically all last year (about 30 days absences only) She never was out of country for more then about 4 months per year (and more then 2.5 months at a time) I had evidence that she...

Re: Travel during first passport application (EU, Settled Status)

I believe the answer is "yes" for all your questions: - You need to submit originals of all your "uncanceled" passports from all countries (technically, it may include even some expired ones) - You can travel on your national ID - given that you have settled status you are allowed to enter UK on EU ...

Re: Applying for British Citizenship soon

A, sorry, you are right! Then it does not make a difference in this case (though probably might if parents would be in a more shaky status?)
There are countries which automatically grant citizenship to a child born there, if the child has no other citizenship, but indeed not UK

Re: Applying for British Citizenship soon

I think a child born outside of SA to SA parents only acquires SA citizenship ("by descent") if her birth is registered with SA authorities. Did you do it? If not, your daughter might be stateless. And a stateless child born in UK is automatically UK citizen. So it might be that you do not have to a...

Re: Citizenship

Just to check (given your lawyer behaviour):
You know that you only can apply for citizenship immediately after getting ILR if you are married to a UK citizen, right?
Otherwise you have to wait 12 months on ILR before applying.

Sorry for your father. Mine passed away log ago.. Indeed, one has to send to PO originals of citizenship certificate and of all foreign passports. Re: Old dependant application issues

Hi We just got her approval for citizenship in the mail 2 days ago, on 14/01. I am proud of myself - she had close to 600 days absences so I prepared a whole load of supporting documents - and it seems it worked (or they just decided to go easy on a 75 years old) Glasgow city council is closed for c...

Re: Citizenship for soon to be 18 year old

I just said that there MIGHT be an option to apply for minor's registration even when neither parent is UK citizen or applying for naturalisation. But whether OP circumstances warrant such application is for them to figure out. In particular, it seems they might rely on the line "the child’s future ...

Re: Proof of Parental Responsibility

When I applied (online in 2019), there was no special "CONSENT TO THE APPLICATION" form offered, so we wrote a free form letter of consent, signed by both parents. This is what I refer to.
I believe paper application contained a special form once..

Yes, if he applies based on settled status as a dependent member of EU citizen, he will have to prove that that citizen (you) was in UK "lawfully" for 5 years before getting settled status. If you were worker for those 5 years then you do not need any insurance (this only applies to students and sel...

If he applies with you, and he is less then 18 on the day of application, then - it is cheaper - he will not need to pass english test and life in UK test But once he has settled status there is no future CSI requirement for him or you (or any other requirement on working, being dependant, having he...

Guys, can you tell what are the documents they ask for when one applies to change the card? (apart from BRC itself and probably passport) Proof of address? Anything else? A silly question: invitation letter says "contact the city council within 21 day". This is not an imperative requirement though, or is it? Given that one now has 6 months to do the ceremony.. My colleague got his letter dated early November, but he does not want to do the ceremony before January, an...
