Re: Does the EU spouse have to be at the visa appointment?

Thank you both. Yes, the visa process is simplified for EU/EEA family members.

Does the EU spouse have to be at the visa appointment?

Hello, Sincere apologies if this has been asked recently, I can't seem to find any relevant posts. I'm German living in the UK, my husband is Jamaican and lives with me. He needs a new Schengen visa, as his most recent one has expired. Do I need to accompany him to the appointment at the visa centre...

Re: Schengen (Germany) visitor visa for non-EEA spouse not resident in the EEA

So my husband applied for a short-stay Schengen visa at the Belgian embassy in Kingston, Jamaica last Tuesday (8 days ago), and today, he received notification that his visa has been granted and he can pick up his passport. :D For any future applicants to the Belgian embassy in Jamaica: they are awa...

Will do! Won't be applying until September, though.

Re: Schengen (Germany) visitor visa for non-EEA spouse not resident in the EEA

(Sorry for the multiple posts; I wish I could edit.) Unfortunately, it appears that Belgium represents NL in Jamaica and applies its own rules to NL visas. Oh, well. Are there any other countries that are known to be quite fast and effective when it comes to applying the directive? Any experiences w...

Thank you! Good to know that Belgium are a bit slow; NL it is, then.

Re: Schengen (Germany) visitor visa for non-EEA spouse not resident in the EEA

One more question. I keep reading the following excerpt online but cannot find any official reference to it in the relevant directives: "All the Member State consular officials can ask for is their passport and a document establishing their family ties with you, such as marriage or birth certificate...

Re: Schengen (Germany) visitor visa for non-EEA spouse not resident in the EEA

Of course, I came across Directive 2004/38/EC just after posting. Sorry. So I suppose we can easily get a Schengen visa for, say, Belgium but not for Germany, as I'm a citizen and EU law doesn't overrule national law. If we were to get a visa from Belgium but fly straight to Germany, would this viol...

Schengen (Germany) visitor visa for non-EEA spouse not resident in the EEA

Hello, I'm a German/British citizen living in Jamaica, and I'd like to visit my family in Germany together with my Jamaican spouse. I have browsed a lot of posts and websites but cannot quite work out which rules apply to us. Do we have to submit a full application for a visitor visa, including fina...

Congratulations :) It is good to know that they do sometimes accept applications that they could theoretically refuse if they wanted. Gives me hope.

CC, you seem quite convinced that renouncing British citizenship would be a legitimate and effective option. I'm in a similarly complicated dual-nationality situation, and am seriously considering renouncing. Do you know how long it generally takes the HO to process an application to renounce citize...

Possible to do an SS by October?

Hi everyone! I'm in a bit of a conundrum at the moment, as I'm about to apply for a postgraduate degree in the UK that would be starting in October, and I have a non-EEA partner whom I very much want to take to the UK with me. We're living in East Asia now, and I wonder whether it would effectively ...
