Children born outside the UK are normally required to have ILR status first.

A family friend can be a referee, so can colleagues, clients, employers, landlords, etc - as long as they satisfy the requirements for referees.

As I understand it children born outside the UK are expected to have their ILR status before applying for registration.

Re: Which ceremony venue in Yorkshire to choose?

I believe all UK council registry offices (venues) are busy with sometimes long wait times, so trying to choose a council that may not be busy is probably a lottery.

Re: Changing Employer after ILR

Hi All, I realize that the employer has to provide a letter for ILR saying that 'the employee will be required for a foreseeable period'. Once a person gets the ILR is there a period (i.e., one year etc.) upto which you can't change the employer? Or it doesn't matter once the ILR is granted. Thanks...

Re: INTERESTING CASE - PRESETTLED EXPIRATION

Apply for settled status - if you don't qualify for full settled status you stay on pre-settled, if I understand correctly.
Note that your earnings/taxes are not relevant for settled status, it's residency based. Others may comment further.

Re: ILR with a criminal record and looking to apply for my British passport

Perhaps best to start with the "good character guidance" used by UKVI case workers: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/good-character-nationality-policy-guidance Without knowing all the details the first advice would be to disclose the details as part of your application. Do ask further ques...

We have no more insight than you into how the Home Office UKVI organises, or will organise, all the additional demands at present, unless government ministers divulge further details.

All lawful residence counts towards the residency period, it's not dependent on visa type.

The date on the card is the card issue date.
The date on the letter granting ILR is your start date.

Re: Change of Surname Since Citizenship Certificate Issued

Documents with different names cause problems when applying for a British passport. This issue comes up regularly. I'm just aware of the issue but you should perhaps have a look through this thread: https://www.immigrationboards.com/british-citizenship/passport-refused-uncancelled-passport-in-maiden...

Your wife can apply for AN naturalisation now - your kid can apply for MN1 registration also, at the same time as your wife - add them to your wifes application. Your flag shows Austria - I assume you are not Austrian.

What documents did you have to obtain from abroad?
For the passport all that is required is your nat. certificate and your passport (copy if accepted).

Does 2 years old need their biometrics taken? I've seen older topics saying that under 6yo don't need to give fingerprints, but does anyone know what the current guidance is? Re: Naturalisation

It should be noted that the certificate is not a travel document and could only be used for facilitating entry to the UK. UK Border Force may already have you as a British citizen on their system and might retain the BRP card on your return. A British citizen has automatic right of abode in the UK a...

Re: Entering the UK

No it doesn't mean that - if you are a temporary visitor it's a valid statement - not if you are a resident - update as and when necessary.
When you get a new passport you update your pre-settled status (online), in July, and in 2024 apply for Settled Status

We don't really know which council will be faster, and by the time you have the approval a reputedly fast council may have slowed down, or vice versa.
