Re: US/UK citizens marrying in the UK

Thanks for your response Casa. Ohara - just so I'm understanding correctly, does "overstaying" in this case mean staying more than 90 days from the expiry of the visa (which gov.uk says is the legal limit, though I may have misunderstood) or staying at all past the visa expiry date? It is not OK to...

Re: Questions about benefits

You did not got the point. I was saying that you get fixed amount of child benefit irrespective of your earning . You only pay tax charge if you or your partner individual income is over £50,000 so my point was that there are certain benefit which you can still claim even when you have this income ...

Re: Questions about benefits

The £35k requirement is ONLY for Tier 2 General migrants applying for ILR w.e.f. April 2016. Exactly, to make sure people will have enough to keep their own families, especially with a spouse working too and with the limit of 2 children to claim for with TCs and HB(?) starting in a few months time ...

Re: Questions about benefits

The idea behind the financial requirment to sponsor your family and the 35k for ILR, is that you show you can keep your own family. Therefore what about others benefits like income related or housing ? Can you claim these at single rate or for kids? You cannot claim benefits to house your children. ...

Sounds like they are getting ready for when Tax Credits end and claimants are moved onto Universal Credit. Under UC, one will be the worker parent and the other the carer parent, to sort out how much each parent must earn for them to avoid the Universal Credit condidtions, job centre, work providers...

Doesn't the UK Parliament represent democracy in the UK? They are the sevants of the people. You can't gtet more democratic than the, one person one vote system that was used by the British for Brexit. As aked on another forum, has the UK ever been in the EU? Re: Applying for child's british passport - being asked for

Why didn't you apply for the child's passport sooner, before having to send the BRP back after your ceremony?? This is irrelevent. The child was born a citizen according the laws of this nation. The child is entitled to a passport because of that. Even if there never existed such a thing as a BRP ,...

Re: ILR dependents - Child Ben/Child Tax/Council Benefits

I recently turned self-employed and fall under low income. You need to be aware that going SE on a low income, is changing under the welfare reforms as the welfare state will no longer support a hobby business after the first year. Under those welfare reforms, those who are SE will have their incom...

Re: Child tax credit and child benefit after ILR

If you claim child tax credits, this MUST be claimed in JOINT names with your spouse. As said, Tax Credits must be claimed in both names but you cannot take extra benefits (the second adult element of Working Tax Credits) for a partner that has no recourse to public funds. If you claim Tax Credits ...

Re: Child tax credit and child benefit after ILR

The reason for the repeated question is the Child benefit form is now asking for partners details as well . Child Benefit is now an income based welfare payment. It wasn't before and then there was no income limit. This is why they need to know the details of a partner. Just because you can have pu...

The application form and guidance do not say that you have to show proof that you have private health insurance, if your partner is a student with an EHIC. You only need to provide her EHIC.
