Thanks for the quick replies. Very reassuring.

I asked about the legal issue as I was not sure about it. So, I suppose I can always carry my old ppt in case they query about the earlier B1/B2 visa.

But is it actually 'legal' to carry two passports when travelling?...

On a similar note, I called up the US embassy in London to check for this, and they couldn't help with the query... so much for the 09 general enquiries number!

:o John, you should read my response in the context of the post I was replying to originally  All I meant to say is that going the NCS way does not necessarily gaurantee that the applications will be dealt in very fast turnarounds... like 3 wks as for some lucky people... ...However, from the ...

True, NCS does generally tend to speed things up. My point was that it is not gauranteed.
Dawie wrote:Fair enough, but all the anecdotal evidence points to the fact that doing your application through the NCS does give your application a higher priority, despite the denials of the Home Office.

Just to clear the confusion. ILR stamps are no longer transferred to new passports at immigration. However, for your Indian passport, you'll be fine as long as you carry your old passport with you whenever you are travelling. IHC do not cancel the valid ILR stamps on expired passports, so no problem...

Not necessarily. My wife applied through NCS on 1st Match, we are still waiting... We had two ack letters, but that's about it.

That's precisely why I mentioned to be careful and to staple the old passport at the back as the machine readable bit is on the front page of the new passport. Please be careful with the staple issue, i was advised not to do that as the new passport is machine readable and staple pin could cause a p...

Re: Indian Passport Expires in Jul and i Have an ILR

Simply get the passport renewed. IHC will give you a new passport and will also send your old passport back with 'Cancelled' stamps on it. However, your ILR page will not be stamped along with any other valid visas... these would still be valid. Just carry both your passports when you are travelling...

Notaries are generally expensive. However, 'solicitors' are cheap... they'll normally certify passport copies for about £10. So give a couple of solicitors around you a ring and go with the cheapest. Check with your embassy... as they might accept a document certified by a church priest, teacher, do...

That's quite surprising. I would think that naturalisation certificate and UK passport would be 'official' documents! Maybe there is some valid legal reason behind this.... or else, just the clerks being difficult, which I wouldn't be surprised about! Don't you have the old Indian passport of your m...

Re: Nobody talks about it on this forum !!!!

I an assuming you never had a social life in India either did you?... Instead of complaining, have you ever thought of socialising with your work mates?... maybe joining a local leisure centre... There are a lot of avenues open, if you choose to look around. But if your attitude is going to be 'my s...

Well, as it turns out, the recorded delivery was an ack letter from IND... the one with the character enquiries text... and signed by CT1; although we did not enclose any recorded delivery envelopes. Thanks for the replies...

We are waiting for my wife's approval letter. Had a recorded letter delivery card in post yesterday, so was wondering if that was it. Will have to go to the depot tomorrow to pick it up.

But from the posts it seems it's probably something else.

That's what happens in pretty much every other profession... call it discrimination or whatever else, it's very difficult to prove. Unless you are exceptionally talented, the employer will always recruit for the least hassle... that's EU residents. And it's not insensitive, it's the reality, though ...

Welcome to the real world... compete with the local EU colleagues to get a job like all other professionalists do.

However, they should not have done this retrospectively... The channel4 report on this was good to raise awareness of this change.

I think 'confused' is actually right. The fee for passports was increased in Nov05. The next increase later this year will be to account for e-ppt AND for the ID card.

So you need to extend your WP as well...
I can suggest an agency, reputable, you can always pay the fees and then get money back from your employer.
