Re: Thousands of EU citizens ‘at risk of losing legal status after Brexit’

In the meantime nobody is representing us. Maybe we should just resign to the fact we'll get shafted.

Re: Thousands of EU citizens ‘at risk of losing legal status after Brexit’

A deafening silence on this subject. Has immigrationboards.com given up on the subject of EU citizens and settled status? Meanwhile on the New Statesman: https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/brexit/2018/04/government-s-eu-citizens-plan-ignores-most-vulnerable Imagine waking up one day and being tol...

I believe this very draft (or parts of it) was reneged on by the Honourable Prime Minister yesterday during PMQ. In other words it's just a worthless piece of paper.

Re: Home Office Brexit app for EU citizens put in doubt

I couldn't fight the system if I wanted to, because I'm not British and not planning to become one. Like me probably 100,000's of EU citizens who never planned to become British because they didn't have to. We'll be replaced by more motivated non-EU migrants who see the blue passport as a Holy Grail.

Re: Home Office Brexit app for EU citizens put in doubt

Thanks Obie for getting the point and explaining it better than I did. Settled status or not, I, like 10,000's of EU citizens in UK for donkeys' years, have already decided: my future is not in this country. I'll stay here until I find a decent job in the continent, ideally Germany, and rebuild my l...

Re: Home Office Brexit app for EU citizens put in doubt

Secret. Simon, what is your point, if I may dare ask? We are not discussing Brexit vs Remain supporters here. This is about a scheme that Theresa May has agreed with the EU and promised to implement, but she apparently now paused, just to teach the EU a lesson. Can I have your enlightened opinion on...

Re: Home Office Brexit app for EU citizens put in doubt

If a person enter the UK to work and benefit the economy, then i see no problem. If their mission for entry is to commit crime, then there is an imperative to remove them. It is not as simple as you described. is it? The infrastructure has to be there to support growing/incoming population (which i...

Re: Home Office Brexit app for EU citizens put in doubt

Even though her hostile policy may have worked, the hit on the economy is clearly not worth it, in any event. I do not understand why UK ministers and some constituents are so obsessed with migrant. If a person enter the UK to work and benefit the economy, then i see no problem. If their mission fo...

Re: Home Office Brexit app for EU citizens put in doubt

Is the system not ready because of purely technical and administrative issues, or is this a deliberate choice to keep people on the grill, so they will leave? At the end of the day, it IS working! Immigration from the EU is slowing down. That's what Theresa May always wanted with her hostile environ...

It is clearly illegal.
Is there anything that can be done about it? I mean not just political pressure.

Can this be reported to some authority? Surely now some employers will have the perfect excuse to deny a job or sideline existing employees.

It''s not discrimination it's due dilligence. Are you serious or are you just trolling? The HO itself has insisted that nothing changes at the moment and nothing is required from either the employees or the employers. So what would be the point of making a register or EU employees and pushing them ...

EU employees are already being actively discriminated against

Worrying trend among UK employers is to preempt the potential and yet undefined effect of Brexit on EU citizens by actively forcing them to justify their immigration status and putting the burden of them to prove to their employer that they will be indeed be able to stay in Britain after Brexit. See...

I’ve got the same email too, however I’m just wondering if there will be any fees (as mentioned no more than the cost of UK passport) to pay for this simple process or is it going to be free of charge for the swap “ And importantly, for any EU citizen who holds Permanent Residence under the old sch...

Re: Leaked Post-Brexit EU/EEA Immigration strategy paper reported in the Guardian

Protect EU citizens from what? The Government's proposal may not yet cover every possible scenario but it seems clear that EU citizens will, in general, be placed in the same position as non-EU citizen permanent residents of the United Kingdom, or able to acquire U.K. permanent residence. There is ...

Re: Leaked Post-Brexit EU/EEA Immigration strategy paper reported in the Guardian

The thing is we don't yet know what 'settled' will mean after Brexit. The existing DCPR will not be valid. We don't know who and how will be considered a permanent resident. The notion that an EU citizen is a dangerous chancer and a burden to society unless proven otherwise has finally been swallowe...

Obie, whatever the result of the Brexit negotiations, most EU citizens will be made to leave. Not by force of law, but by making their lives uncomfortable.
