To answer your question requires a knowledge of Malaysian citizenship law as well as British law. As posted above, it is possible to renounce British citizenship – although only if you have or will gain another citizenship. (In other words, you can't renounce British citizenship if that would make...

Re: Remain in UK 5 days after submitting

Hi everyone, I'm a little confused about this requirement that you have to be in the UK for a week after you apply for citizenship. Does anyone know why this is? And how exactly would they even know if you are here or not?? Thx for your help! Is it actually a requirement or is it just advice? You m...

How will they know this? Use NCS - you do not need to send passport. The NCS will photocopy each page of the passport, I imagine. But I don't think it's a problem, provided that the OP fulfils the requirements for naturalisation. In any case, the application for the Australian visa was made before ...

Based on what you post, your children are both Canadian and British and so are entitled to both passports. A Canadian citizen can (generally) enter the UK without a visa for a period of 6 months as a visitor (i.e. assuming that no work etc is intended). However, what are you/they going to say when i...

Yes, unless you are the spouse or civil partner of a British citizen (and applying on that basis), you need to have held settled status – in this case ILR – for at least 12 months before applying for naturalisation.

Re: Unemployed but need to apply for naturalization

Hello all, I was wondering if being unemployed for 2years would affect my right to British citizenship...I haven’t been working for the past 2yrs but my spouse (She just been granted her British Citizenship) is employed and works full time. I don't claim any benefits except CB as we have kids. I ...

Since you appear to be a permanent resident however I believe your child is automatically a British citizen (I hope others will comment on that). That is correct. I'd advise getting your child a British passport, since it is the only satisfactory way of demonstrating British citizenship in this cir...

You should be able to travel, because your husband can travel on his existing passport. A request for a return of passport does not mean the withdrawal of a naturalisation application.

Thaks for your comments chaps, I have one more question, when I've arrived here in August 2005, I've stayed with out work until Nov. 2005 from where I've started having my payslips and stuff. the only paper that can proof that I was here on August 2005 is a tenancy agreement for a room I've rented ...

Thanks very much Christophe. Should I mention in the application that I travel for contract assignments? Would this cause unnecessary confusion? No, I wouldn't mention it particularly. I don't think it's an issue at all. Plenty of people travel for work, some a lot, as do you, but that doesn't alte...

Re: british citizenship question plz?

There is no particular requirement to be in employment (or to have been in employment) to apply for naturalisation. There is also no problem with short periods outside the UK during the qualifying period. Are you a British citizen? In that case she can apply as the spouse of a British citizen, in wh...

I wouldn't think that was necessary. For example, if you travelled a lot for work and stayed in hotels, would you give the hotels' addresses, even if you stayed in the same ones over and over again? No, and it's sufficient in your case to give the address of what you call your main residence. (I am ...

Thanks Christophe, that was the answer I was looking for. Do you have any idea when the COA may finish. On the UKBA website its says in Spring 2011. That makes it latest end May 2011. Do you think it may drag out longer than that? I don't know. Government and "the law" move slowly, except when it s...

One question to ask is whether it is necessary to withdraw your application for your documents to be sent back to you at this time and, if so, how you may do this. A request for a return of passport (and its return) does not mean that a naturalisation application needs to be withdrawn. Obviously, t...

I know of no reason why it should, as long as he or she fulfils all the requirements. Being on benefits is not a sign of not being of "good character".

As KDS says, as long as you retain your status of indefinite leave to remain, there is no time pressure as such: you could hold ILR for 25 years and then decide to apply if you wanted to. Of course, and as a side issue – all else being equal, it's wise to apply earlier rather than later if you see...

I don't think that the OP's point is that the form he or she has filled in might become obsolete as a form but rather that he has dated it with a date that precedes the eligibility to apply. Personally, I'd fill in a new form with the right date, although I can't say that the old date would disquali...
