Working/employment is not a requirement for naturalisation. Plenty of people who naturalise as British citizens have never been employed in the UK — non-working wives would be the biggest group, of course.

Re: Naturalisation as Spouse of UK Citizen - Timing

My wife currently has ILR (dated Oct 2009). I am a British citizen. We were married in October 2007 and my wife first came into the UK on a Fiancee Visa in June 2007. She has passed the ESOL exams and has been resident in the UK since June 2007. Can she apply for naturalisation from June 2010 (3 ye...

Re: Am I eligible to apply for British Citizenship??

Hi There In the Home Office website it was mentioned that the applicant should be physically present in the UK at the begining of the residential qualifying period. (For example, if we received your application on 25 November 2005, you would have to show that you were in the United Kingdom on 26 No...

The question, as someone said above, is whether you were here legally during the three years before your application (assuming you apply on the basis of marriage to a British citizen). If you were an asylum seeker during that time, for example, and the Home Office was deciding on your case, or you w...

Thank you. I think that I'll apply for a citizenship once 1 year ILR is up. I was told so by somebody who works for HO. I just thought I could do it quicker, but better to be safe then sorry. Can I apply at 11 months and 1 day? or it has to be 12 months exactly? Because you are married to a British...

How do i order a copy without him finding out wont they ask questions? Is it illegal? In England and Wales you can get anybody's birth certificate; you don't have to have any connection with the person at all. The person is not informed that someone has applied for his or her certificate. Marriage ...

In order to be able to naturalise on the basis of marriage to a British citizen, it is necessary that you be married to that person on the day that you apply for naturalisation. You don't have to have been married to that person for 3 years, and your spouse doesn't have to have been a British citize...

I think you are ok with that. As the above reply said, it means they know you from regular contact, not just having met you few times.
And not from merely telephone or other non-face-to-face contact. I think you will be fine with that.

EEA Regulations do not allow IOs to stamp passports of residence or permanent residence card holders. This obviously means that the NCS cannot rely on the dates in the passport. The passport of a Commonwealth citizen with the right of abode is also not stamped when the holder enters or leaves the U...

Re: Citizenship will be revoked - Is it true?

I would say its probably only applicable to people who are naturalised as British. I am not sure if those born with UK citizenship can have it taken away. I understand that only circumstances they would revoke it is if they find out that you acquired it fraudulently and if you do something 'prejudi...

Naturalisation is not predicated on the basis of employment. The eligibility criteria are spelt out in detail, and employment is not one of the criteria. Remember too that some people applying for naturalisation will never have been employed in the UK (many dependent spouses, for example, are not in...

Not on that basis alone. But, as I say, how are you going to prove her citizenship status without her agreement to help by supplying relevant documentation?

Refrees should not be related to you by either birth or marriage. That's true, but this relationship would be considered extremely distant in the UK— a parent's second cousin's husband — so much so that, in practical terms, many people would be only dimly aware, if aware at all, that such a per...
