You can apply for both and it will create no additional problems. Some people do not wish to become Irish citizens and they would prefer this route, however they would not be prevented from applying for citizenship if they were to change their mind in the future.

Re: Lord help

Well I believe that with the slowdown in the economy, and with departmental budget cuts coming, it dosent take a gunius to work out where the cuts will be made. SO EXPECT EVEN MORE. REDTAPE, DELAYS, and whatever they can come up with to slow the process down. Ironically the citizenship department t...

You have a better chance in the UK because they have a much larger call centre industry (despite most of them relocating to India). It has become much more difficult to obtain work permits in Ireland. If you have a large number of years of experience you could go the green card route. Managerial pos...

As a side note, the pound has depreciated significantly against the euro, perhaps this is making them nervous so they start issuing new coins. The main problem here is tit for tat child like behaviour in not recognising visas and resident permits. All visas/resident permits issued by all EU/EEA memb...

The most important thing to look at is whether she held Dutch nationality at any stage in the past because there are simplified naturalisation procedures in such cases. You will need to ask a Dutch lawyer to help, unless you can read Dutch and trawl through the legislation. Like most countries Dutch...

I suggest all US citizens who live in Ireland should contact their Senators to inform them of how poorly they are treated in Ireland and that NO special deal should be made for the illegal Irish. Also, cutting a deal for 50 000 Irish and leaving the 10 million Mexicans to continue sufferring the sam...

ca.funke your proposals are completely unrealistic and the Schengen signatories will never allow the UK and Ireland to cherry pick the benefits of Schengen. Suggesting that people should still be checked goes 100% against the whole purpose of Schengen. Travelling by boat from a Schengen country, you...

Those who get interrogated tend to be the ones that looks suspicious (according to simplistic profiling) ie non-white, its sad but true. To be safe just carry one of your passports even though its inconvenient. I dont think they would put up a fight if you tell them youre Irish.

It is time for the US multinationals to pull out of Ireland, move those jobs back to America and take the skilled immigrants along. The government will then hopefully get their act together.

Ireland is a banana republic, its really not worth the pain!

The citizenship issue shows how incompetent and inept the Irish government is. They're obsessed with countries like the Netherlands who have large foreign born naturalised citizens, and the Irish government obviously is very afraid of the same thing happening here. No minister for justice wants to b...

What you actually need to do is go to your local TD and get him to ask Brian Lenihan the progress of individual cases, to which he has to reply in the parliament. I think this will work better than merely telling your local TD how woeful the service is. Eventually he will get tired of the questions ...

Im not sure why your wife left the US but you are taking big risks because she is a conditional resident. Is it not a requirement that you live as husband and wife at the same address to have conditional residence removed and granted permanent residence? In this case you wont be able to do that.
