The Netherlands is one of the countries that follows the directive. If you are married to a EU citizen and have a residence Permit from the UK (and probably anoy other EU country) you don't need a visa to enter the netherland. All you need is your passports, and a copy of your marriage certificate (...

Sorry, but why not just send it in very quickly? If they ask for further Info they will probably already have decided on your application and need to verify something before sending out the residence documents and your docs. They asked us for some additional Info. I sent it to them the same day, and...

Between Ireland and the UK "enforcing" this law is no problem - just travel, as there are no border-checkpoints. If you travel to anywhere else in Europe, it's better to have a copy of the law with you, as some border-guards are unaware of these laws. However, in the end and after some (polite) arg...

She will need an Irish Visa, which will take about 3 weeks to be processed by the Irish Embassy in the UK. I am living in Northern Ireland (around 3 km from the border to the Republic of Ireland) and even my legally residing non EEA wife needs a visa to go to the republic. Bit of a joke, IMO. Furthe...

Check if you have a BUPA office in your country. They usually offer Travel Insurance that complies to Schengen requirements.

You might get a better response if you stated where you are based.

Child Benefit (Kindergeld) is currently 154 Euro a month per kid. There are no deductions, no income limits, no taxation for it. But it might take a while to get through, especially if you just moved there. But you will be able to claim it backwards to the day you took up residency in Germany. There...

You don't need to apply for EEA1, if you don't want to. That will have no effect on your wifes EEA2 application.

But it seems that the EEA2 applications are dealt with quicker if you send in the EEA and EEA2 applications together (my own experience).

Fortunately less then 2 months in our case. Applied beginning of July and had it at the end of August. Probably because we sent EU1 and EU2 together.

So I guess, we can count ourself lucky.

Being German myself, I am not sure why that is such a problem. Slight inconvenience...yes, but not really a problem. If your wife is french I would have applied at the french embassy. I have been told by several embassies (and it also states on most embassy sites) that the spouses of EU citizens always should apply at their home embassy, no matter where within the EU they intend to travel. I know three people who ...

Thanks for the answers. You don't (necessarily) have to give up your other citizenship when taking on german citizenship. You can apply for an excemption, which is in fact not too difficult. AFAIK that's the case for germans who take on another citizenship and for foreigners who take on German citiz...

Hello Wanderer, a "Reisepass" is the german Passport. You you by any chance mean the "Personalausweis"? The Personalausweis is the german identity Card, and every german citizen is required to carry it with him. It is usually accepted for travelling within europe, and even some parts of North Africa...

UK to scrap Common Travel Area with Irl. - join Schengen?

I heard this morning on the Radio that the UK will scrap the common Travel Area arrangement with Ireland to introducte the new "E-Border" system in the UK. That means all people will need a Passport to Travel from Ireland to the UK from 2009. Do you think Ireland will join Schengen now? AFAIK the Co...
