Check if you have a BUPA office in your country. They usually offer Travel Insurance that complies to Schengen requirements.

You might get a better response if you stated where you are based.

Child Benefit (Kindergeld) is currently 154 Euro a month per kid. There are no deductions, no income limits, no taxation for it. But it might take a while to get through, especially if you just moved there. But you will be able to claim it backwards to the day you took up residency in Germany. There...

You don't need to apply for EEA1, if you don't want to. That will have no effect on your wifes EEA2 application.

But it seems that the EEA2 applications are dealt with quicker if you send in the EEA and EEA2 applications together (my own experience).

Fortunately less then 2 months in our case. Applied beginning of July and had it at the end of August. Probably because we sent EU1 and EU2 together.

So I guess, we can count ourself lucky.

Being German myself, I am not sure why that is such a problem. Slight inconvenience...yes, but not really a problem. I much prefer having a valid Schengen Visa in my wifes passport then having to argue with the Airline Staff every time to let us board a plane to any of the Schengen States. (and that...

If your wife is french I would have applied at the french embassy. I have been told by several embassies (and it also states on most embassy sites) that the spouses of EU citizens always should apply at their home embassy, no matter where within the EU they intend to travel. I know three people who ...

I am aware that my wife wouldn't need a Visa ... in theory. But we still applied for a (free) multiple entry Visa from my home countries embassy. As we got issued with a 1 year visa that will do for a while. When I go on vacation the last thing I wanna do is to risk any discussions with some "not so...

Thanks for the answers. You don't (necessarily) have to give up your other citizenship when taking on german citizenship. You can apply for an excemption, which is in fact not too difficult. AFAIK that's the case for germans who take on another citizenship and for foreigners who take on German citiz...

Marriage to German Citizen, but living abroad - Citizenship?

Hi, I am a German Citizen married to a non-EU citizen. We are currently living outside Germany (and I have been for the last 7 years), but intend to go back at some point (at latest when we have a kid). Is it possible for my wife to acquire german citizenship (at some point in the future) based on o...

Hello Wanderer, a "Reisepass" is the german Passport. You you by any chance mean the "Personalausweis"? The Personalausweis is the german identity Card, and every german citizen is required to carry it with him. It is usually accepted for travelling within europe, and even some parts of North Africa...

Hello Pava, your wife will need an Irish Visa, which unfortunately takes ages to get. UK to scrap Common Travel Area with Irl. - join Schengen?

I heard this morning on the Radio that the UK will scrap the common Travel Area arrangement with Ireland to introducte the new "E-Border" system in the UK. That means all people will need a Passport to Travel from Ireland to the UK from 2009. Do you think Ireland will join Schengen now? AFAIK the Co...

No, that's def. not true. My Wifes EEA FP was valid from the 1st of July 2007 to the 1st of January 2008.

We sent in the EEA1 and EEA2 on the 6th of July, straight after we sent foot into the UK, and we got the Residence Card for me and the Residence permit for my wife within less then 2 months.

First of all you should apply as soon as possible via the EU1 Form. The quicker you apply the quicker they might respond. (good joke, I know) To apply for a work permit while the EU1 application is pending your will need to find a job first. A company has to be willing to support your work pe...

The EEA1 is the residence Permit application for an EU citizen. This is not really required to have or do, and most people probably wouldn't apply for it. The EEA1 application has a processing time of roughly 6 to 8 weeks. The EEA2 application is for the Non-EU Spouse, and has a processing time of a...

Irish EU1 vs. UK EEA1 - The way it should be done...

I had been living in Ireland for more then six years, and married my non-EUwife after a five year (proven) relationship in June 2006. We had applied for residency for my wife via the EU1 form ...

just as a sidenote...you don't necessarily need the passport for the National Insurance number, but it might help. They have a way to verify it directly with the home Office.
