You have to just keep trying as if someone cancels any appointment that slot will be re-available for someone else to book.

Different people you speak to at UKBA will give you different answer (may be due to lack or training or whatever). But as timesofindia pointed out, according to modernised guidance, if you entered UK within 90 days of Entry Clearance then you can apply upto 28 days before the 5th Anniversary of EC.

If you still have time for your ILR application, simplest thing to do is retake the LiUK test and make sure all the details are correct this time.

Do we know what is allowed and what is not; to be taken inside the building?

e.g. Can I take Ipad, Mobile Phones (on silent mode of course), Portable battery charger (external), kids colouring books, colours etc in the building?
