Las Vegas is a great option for us as we are looking to have a nice, simple wedding. Does anyone know of anywhere else that falls into that category? New Zealand, especially since you're going there anyway, is a great option. We got married in NZ. One page form, 170 NZD, no residency rules, no COA,...

BAWS, I don't know if contacting SOLVIT made the process any faster. I guess since we only had to wait a bit over seven months for a decision, it is faster than people who've waited nearly a year. I called SOLVIT Ireland and explained the situation first. Sean Smith then asked for copies of our pass...

1. Did you receive a letter from DOJ asking you to come collect the stamp at the GNIB or did you go to GNIB directly and ask them to issue you with one? I got a letter from the DoJ. I've tried going to the GNIB multiple times to get any kind of stamp from them, and it's always been useless. Did you...

EU1 decision: 2-year Stamp 4

Hi all. Got my EU1 decision from the DoJ in the post this morning. No 5-year residency, but I've been given permission for a 2-year Stamp 4, which allows me to live and work in Ireland. Important details on my case: American married to UK citizen No previous residence in another EU country applied J...

I can tell you that the US immigration is not much better Smile The way they treat people is probably even worst I find it's not so much *how* they treat you- all countries have immigration officers who have control and power issues and who sometimes take out their issues with you and treat you lik...

OR does Ireland think that judgements of the European Court of Justice do not apply to it? Well, they seem to think that EU directives don't apply to them, so I see no reason why the Irish would take the European Court of Justice judgements seriously, either. I wish I had the conviction that some o...

I agree it will be harder to find a job if you need a work permit, any work permit. As soon as they hear that you require one, they'll probably throw your application away. Your wife will have to be a good salesperson for herself. Here's the link for the spouse of an EU citizen, by the way; no GNIB ...

So, if the visitor visa is up within 90 days.. could she just fly to the US for the weekend and come back and renew the 90 days visa to continue looking for jobs? Well, technically it is illegal to look for work on a visitor's visa. But that shouldn't be a problem, because they probably won't give ...

I think the Singh rule works for the whole of the EU. The question is, which would be easier, the EU1 or an Irish spouse visa? You will definitely get the EU1 approved, because you've lived in another EU country together, but it will probably still take six months or longer. Plus, I'm frankly unsure...

How long to get set up in the UK?

I'm American, married to a British citizen. We're living in Ireland right now, but have been looking at moving to the UK. I've been looking for jobs in the UK, and in interviews and such, have told prospective employers that, as the spouse of a UK citizen, I will not need a work permit. I've also to...

Hi. Okay, details: We're an American/UK couple, and we met while working in Ireland. We quit work (and therefore my work permit is not applicable anymore), went on holiday, and got married in New Zealand in Dec '06 and moved back to Ireland because he (UK citizen) has a job here. We've never lived t...

I had contacted SOLVIT a while ago, generally about my EU1 problems, but specifically about how the DoJ could at least give me some proof of Irish residency so that I could apply for a UK EEA family permit from Dublin. The SOLVIT person took copies of our passports and marriage certificate, and said...

This is so painfully yet hysterically ironic that no one but you guys here will appreciate it. This was my plan to apply for an EEA permit from Dublin: When I come back into Dublin, they'll give me one of those "one-month-report-to-the-GNIB" stamps. If it's anything like the first two they...

When I was here on a work permit, this is what they happened: I went to the GNIB offices on Burgh Quay, with my passport and work permit. They stamped my passport for the length of time my work permit is valid (mostly a year) and then gave me a credit card-sized GNIB card. I'm pretty sure this card ...

I'm not sure about this, but I think there are a couple of people from the Ireland forum where the non-EU spouse has gone back to his/her home country and successfully applied for an EEA FP from there. My understanding of the Surinder Singh law is that it basically allows an EU citizen who has been ...

EEA Family permit vs UK spouse visa

Hi, all. I'm one of those non-EU married to EU refugees from Ireland. I'm American and married to a UK citizen who has been exercising his EU treaty rights in Ireland. Therefore, we can apply for either the EEA FP or a UK spouse visa for me to move over to the UK with him. I know there are differenc...

Might be helpful to contact the Immigrant Council and ask what the options are for suing. At the very least, they'll have a list of immigration lawyers and maybe know how much it may cost and how long it'll take.

No. They just kept repeating that my situation is with the DoJ, and that the GNIB can't do anything. No letter, no stamp, nothing. Someone else on the Irish board said they'd also gone and argued with the GNIB about a stamp for hours and they were also refused. I e-mailed the British Embassy again a...
