Re: Court rules "continuous residence" means you CANNOT LEAVE IRELAND AT ALL for year before application

And why they are holding on decisions for those applicants who didn’t go out not even a single day prior to the submission of application? INIS doesn't know which applicants remained in Ireland for a full year. This information is not required on the application form. Yes, perhaps they could ask, b...

Great question. Have you read the news?
Foreign nationals are formally given citizenship at ceremonies attended by the justice minister but two ceremonies planned for September and December were cancelled following July’s ruling.

Re: Court rules "continuous residence" means you CANNOT LEAVE IRELAND AT ALL for year before application

If they don't let you go anywhere one year prior to lodging the application, what else would you call it? The Minister has said he does want people to be able to travel and is prepared to change the law to allow this. You cannot let them own you and stop you from travelling around the world, just f...

Re: Court rules "continuous residence" means you CANNOT LEAVE IRELAND AT ALL for year before application

There’s nothing in their schedule next week about citizenship  . Do what will happen if the minister still sleep What schedule? If you're talking about the Court of Appeal their ruling could be issued in writing. If you're talking about the Oireachtas then they won't schedule anything until the rul...

Re: Court rules "continuous residence" means you CANNOT LEAVE IRELAND AT ALL for year before application

For those who are just waiting for letter of ceremony, when is the next date for a possible and hopeful update? Or there is no date at all, we keep just waiting? We have to wait until there is a ruling from the Court of Appeal. That could be a week, two weeks or a month... my guess is that the publ...

Re: Court rules "continuous residence" means you CANNOT LEAVE IRELAND AT ALL for year before application

The Judge mentioned that the minister does not have discretionary powers but on what basis was that said? Where does it mention in the law that s/he doesn’t? Careful reading of Section 15 ... Upon receipt of an application for a certificate of naturalisation, the Minister may, in his absolute discr...

Re: Court rules "continuous residence" means you CANNOT LEAVE IRELAND AT ALL for year before application

Surely, on average, to make 'some' progress on say half-a-dozen applications a day per person working, so that's 30 per week, given say 20% staff on holiday at any one time (that leaves 49), it wouldn't be unreasonable for 'some' progress to be made on fifteen hundred or so applications per week in...

Re: Court rules "continuous residence" means you CANNOT LEAVE IRELAND AT ALL for year before application

Sorry in advance if this creates a topic within a topic, but it is still related to the ruling: There were three arguments presented at today's Court of Appeal hearing. To paraphrase: Jones (appellant): Spent 100 days out of Ireland in the year before he applied, thinks this is reasonable, and that ...

What does this all mean. That they couldn’t come up with a decision? I don’t understand this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reserved_decision Reserved decision is a legal term. After the hearing of a trial or the argument of a motion a judge might not immediately deliver a decision, but instead take...

Looks to be going ahead... it is on the list here.

It will be heard by Justice Birmingham, Justice Whelan, and Justice McGovern - all are existing Judges of the Court of Appeal.

Re: Court rules "continuous residence" means you CANNOT LEAVE IRELAND AT ALL for year before application

This could still throw a spanner in the works. The Chief Justice has warned cases could be put back to 2021 if there is not an “immediate” increase in the number of judges on the Court of Appeal bench. ... If judges are not appointed by next Tuesday, Judge Clarke said it is his “understanding” that...

Which item? I can't see one. The Minister has already said they're waiting for the Court of Appeal to hear the Jones case at 10.30am on 8th Oct so I'd be surprised if it comes up in the Dail before then.

Re: Irish Citizenship application (Form 8) - How did you organise your application?

In the past, they have managed to close around 60,000 applications awaiting a decision, from what I have heard. They can close these 16,000 apps easily, but, only if they want to. When did they do that? If you look at the chart (based on data from INIS), the most decisions they've made in a year (i...
