I will be doing the application on his behalf as he is classed as a minor. I have read and gathered that the timeline from submitting the application to receiving t...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Hi Everyone. I sent my application form last week to the DFA to begin my journey to citizenship. I am doing this based on descent through a grandparent. Unfortunately I’ve messed up tremendously. I’ve sent off everything but my mums documents (didn’t think I needed too because she’s English and com...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Joey Secondly, I think for many people there is a peace of mind element too. The agency is there to answer all the questions you may have about certificates, inconsistencies etc. Getting answers from the DFA is not easy after all. Many people want to ensure their application and document set are pi...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Hello everyone, How can I check the birth register to see if my mother or grandmother ever registered on the register ? This is key for me to get my Irish citizenship and can’t find anyway online. Thanks This I do not know. It would be very helpful to have access to such a database for applicants t...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Just wanted to wish my fellow applicants (and especially Sulla for his tireless work in keeping up the applicant list) a happy holiday season. Here's hoping we're all newly-minted Irish citizens in 2020! :D Thank you. Best Christmas wished to everyone else. Celebrating Christmas is now actively dis...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

The online application number assigned to your case has no bearing whatsoever on processing times. What matters is the date of physical receipt of the paper application form, together with the full compliment of supporting documents. I suspect you're correct, but how did you establish this? You'd h...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Got the app received email today - Dec 18. I assume there's no correlation between the online app submission and processing? In other words, there's no point in applying and getting an earlier number while you gather the docs, right? The online application number assigned to your case has no bearin...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Just to add to my post above, they also asked for divorce and re-marriage certificates for my grandmother that had nothing to do with my ancestral line. My grandfather died and my grandmother re-married. She later divorced and married again. Yes, she was a colorful soul. Anyway, I had to provide all...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

1) Your own marriage certificate is an essential document regardless of gender or name change status. Are you sure about that? The document requirements say to include "Original civil marriage certificate (if applicable)". What does "if applicable" mean in this context? Since they're trying to esta...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I was just talking with a couple of Brits in China today. They have not yet applied for FBR, but are eligible and they have a renewed sense of urgency now. They never thought Brexit would ultimately be a reality. There may well be another uptick. I hope the FBR section is better prepared this time.

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I imagine the purpose of sending photocopies is to attempt to speed up the process. This works on the assumption that the people processing the application will make photocopies themselves and therefore sending your own may cut out a small step. In reality, we don't know what they do in the FBR depa...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Hi all, I am posting my FRB application and supporting documents tomorrow. Couple of questions: Did you put photos in the envelope loose? Can I use a paperclip? Also same for business card of witness, could I paperclip that to the application? For my grandad I have his birth and death certificate -...
