Re: Court rules "continuous residence" means you CANNOT LEAVE IRELAND AT ALL for year before application

What are the thoughts of forum members about traveling until this is resolved? We are holding off making Christmas travel plans in case the decision is not overturned but it looks like nothing is moving even for people who have not left the country for a day since there are no new ceremonies planne...

Re: Court rules "continuous residence" means you CANNOT LEAVE IRELAND AT ALL for year before application

I just google it and find old news. After the High Court hears a case it usually reserves judgment, meaning the judge adjourns matters to allow them to formulate and write a decision. The majority of reserved judgments are issued within three months but, according to data obtained by The Irish Time...

As usual, markem, your charts are oh-so-apt and incredibly insightful. Always a pleasure to look at them- thank you! Yes, I applied in the last week of June and got my reference number and receipt of payment in the post yesterday after 16 weeks... Thanks! And thanks for your update on the timeline ...

Re: Court rules "continuous residence" means you CANNOT LEAVE IRELAND AT ALL for year before application

Both INIS and the court need to get this issue resolved ASAP. It is stupid and unfair to keep applicants waiting for ages due to one wrong decision from the court. INIS issued citizenship approvals to thousands of people and nobody had a clue about what the law stated or did not state until a grump...

Re: Bank draft

It could mean that your application has not been processed yet. Have a look at the 2019 timeline in this form. I would call and enquire with them to clarify if there are uncertainties. You’d have heard from them if the payment couldn’t be processed yet, the same way you got yours passports back. It ...

Re: Court rules "continuous residence" means you CANNOT LEAVE IRELAND AT ALL for year before application

Not being dumb or ignorant but what does citizenship by naturalization have to do with Brexit? Jones didn’t have a part to play in this conspiracy theory, surely. :) With over 20,000 applications and 61 people who go through the applications, it is rather shocking. :) I’d be interested to know if an...

Re: Court rules "continuous residence" means you CANNOT LEAVE IRELAND AT ALL for year before application

I appreciate where you’re coming from and thus the discretion of the minister for cases where one travels for business. This guy travelled for 3 days out of 100 days for business. The Judge mentioned that the minister does not have discretionary powers but on what basis was that said? Where does it ...

Re: Court rules "continuous residence" means you CANNOT LEAVE IRELAND AT ALL for year before application

Sorry in advance if this creates a topic within a topic, but it is still related to the ruling: There were three arguments presented at today's Court of Appeal hearing. To paraphrase: Jones (appellant): Spent 100 days out of Ireland in the year before he applied, thinks this is reasonable, and that...

Why are some people asked for police clearance certs and why aren’t some asked? Unsure!
I’ve lived in 4 countries and know of someone who has as well and wasn’t asked.

Police Clearance Certificate

Hi there, I’ve been following the timelines here and note that quite a few are asked for police clearance certificates despite the fact that it isn’t in the list of documents required for us to submit. What makes them request for police clearance certificates for some? I’m considering applying for t...

Re: Court rules "continuous residence" means you CANNOT LEAVE IRELAND AT ALL for year before application

This could still throw a spanner in the works. The Chief Justice has warned cases could be put back to 2021 if there is not an “immediate” increase in the number of judges on the Court of Appeal bench. ... If judges are not appointed by next Tuesday, Judge Clarke said it is his “understanding” that...

Out of curiosity, has anyone applied in June and gotten a reference number from them yet?
Has anyone applied in Sept?

It looks to me that they are waiting for court appeal hearing, which will be on 8 Oct. May be the court overturn the last decision but I am not fully sure. I wouldn’t without a letter, etc of some description from your local Garda station/INIS stating you’re card is currently being processed and that you are a lawful citizen on stamp X valid until xx as reflected on your passport. To be honest, I’d rather wait for the new card before I travel if I didn...
