Proof of address requested?

When proof of address is requested by prospective employers in the U.K. for security clearance, such as utility bills or banks statement, what should I do when I do not have them? I have recently arrived and am bunking in with a friend and hence do not have the proof required. Will that indicate a s...

Wouldn't they suspect something if you give an 020 number but the address doesn't correspond to the area code? You'd have to put a London address.
Checked and apparently you can choose from a few area codes. It doesn't have to be 020.

Thanks, kenfrapin. That does help! I'm tempted to go the PAYE route too - there's much less hassle although the hourly rate is significantly reduced. Question - as a PAYE employee, didn't Reed further deduct a percentage of the hourly rate for sick pay, NI etc? I'm hearing 30%, but not sure if that'...

Hi Pyke, Yes I was referring to Umbrella Companies but No, I have no experience of using one. That said, if you join an umbrella company Pros 1. If you chose the right one, then you have no worries of filing tax returns. 2. The money you get into your account will be taxed accordingly without the n...

Using recruitment agents for contract work.

I've searched the forum and there doesn't seem to be much on using recruitment agents in the UK, in particular when it comes to contract work. It's all quite new to me and I've got some questions. Apparently, - Recruitment agents will deduct a fee from your hourly rate as a PAYE employee. The deduct...

Re: Recruitment agents asking for copy of visa?

I am not comfortable providing a copy of my visa to everyone for fear of abuse. Thanks republique. I'm slightly concerned as well. We're at the stage where the recruiter has gotten permission to represent me and has said that he will send my CV to the employer for a particular vacancy. No interview...

you can get skype in number for UK (beginning with 020) for approx $15 for 3 months. Then buy sone skype credit and set call forwarding to your indian number. That should cost $0.12, so its not very expensive. Thats what I had done when I was looking for jobs from India and it definately helps as c...

Recruitment agents asking for copy of visa?

I'm new to using recruitment agents. Is it acceptable for them to request for a scanned copy of the Tier 1 visa before proceeding?

Thanks.

kesavasankar, May I ask how you would deal with your current employer if you do indeed secure a job in the UK? That's quite a tricky situation isn't it? Notice periods and all that. I'm not criticising, but am genuinely interested. kenfrapin, Regarding contract employment, are you referring to umbre...

To the OP

Not sure if it's too late, but I'd suggest you tell your employers you're going on holiday. Nothing wrong with going on holiday. You'd be able to get a longer period of leave too. And if you don't manage to get anything in that period, you can always do a bit of real travelling.

What sort of address proof will be required? A bill? I wouldn't have that until I've been there for at least a month.

Registering with the NHS.

I was wondering, how does one go about doing that? Does it take a long time to process? With the flu, one can never be too careful!
