Forum: Newly Arrived in UK - General How To queries (NO immigration/visa/ILR queries)
Topic: Getting a bank account...

In my experience, as an immigrant who came to UK in 2008, opening a bank account is a pain. All the highstreet banks had the same criteria. Only HSBC has something called as Passport account, which gives a debit card as well. But there is a fee of £6 per month I think. I was in the same boat as OP;...

The only thing for you to worry about is ILR, which comes after 5 years of staying in UK (plus some other criteria). But that seems to a moving post at this time. Unless you want to plan that ahead, you dont need to worry. You can come in march.

If I use credit/debit card I could track the payment and confirm if it went fine. If you use a postal order, it will never fail!! you only spend £10 for a postal order of £250 (which is the max amount you can get on one postal order). I think you are unnecessarily complicating things by using ind...

You dont need to show any bills for applying Tier 1 extension, so this wont be a problem at all. I moved my house 3 days before applying for my extension and I had no document for the new address then.

good luck

Re: Visa start date

Hi Got my Tier 1 visa, I had mentioned date of travel as 10 January 2010, but the visa issued to me is valid from 9/11/2009. Is there anything I can do about this. My location is Delhi, India I dont think you can do anything about it. The start date depends on the caseworker I think. Some time they...

I sent my extension application today. I have filled the old name as thats what appears on the certificate. But I have provided a letter from the university and also explained that in teh cover letter.

Some of my friends have done it without the letter and have got the visa.

Re: Question J4 PBS Dependant application version 10/09

"Now go to question K1" According to me, the above stmt is only if you answer "YES" to J4, as they dont have to show maintenance fund. If it is NO, then we have to continue to J5. This is what I am doing with my application which I am planning to submit tomorrow. Little worried though as there is a...

There are ignorant ppl, but as everyone above has said, it is not the end of world. There are pleanty of other consultants with whom you can t...

Sending Tier 1 extension - Post or Courier?

Which is a preferred way to send the tier 1 extension application? With ongoing strikes from royal mail, is it safe to send via post?

Thanks

- Passport is a must.
- Certificate od Deposit will not work. Have a savings or current account bank statement for 3 months with the necessary balance in it.
- you can eneter at any time before the visa expiry. But be prepared to face some questions at POI in case of long delays.

congrats mate. This rarely happens in the current market, so you have done a great job. Getting a bank account can be painful as newcomers will not have any documents like address proof etc. Best thing is get a letter from the employer, which will get you going. NI is a must, but not urgent. You can...

No such thing as a "sponsor" for a B visa... once you have it, you have it. Thanks mate. Is there a way to contact the US embassy in London (not that I dont believe you, but its best to have an official confirmation to avoid any problems during travel)? I know they have a phone number with ridiculo...

B1 issued in India, but travelling from London

Hi, I am an Indian citizen. I used to work in India and my Indian employer had sponsored my B1 visa. It is a 10 year visa, with out any annotations on it mentioning the Indian company's name. I have never travelled to US on that or any other visa. Recently I shifted to UK and now my current employer...
