Maybe I'm missing something but... http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/britishcitizenship/eligibility/naturalisation/absencesfromuk/ This suggests it is possible to have absences in the final year over 100 days and up to 180 days if the residence requirements over the qualifying period are met and you ...

If you don't know, you don't know. Write unknown. An application should not be rejected for this reason. I'll admit we didn't fill in anything about grandparents, not even unknown on my wife's application. Didn't seem to cause her any problems, as I think it was just under 4 weeks from when she app...

djb, are all spouses allowed to accompany their partners at these interviews? I mean, did you have to ask for permission, or were they nice and friendly and offered you a seat? :? The interviewer was very nice and friendly. Remember the interview isn't anything to be scared of, in fact they are onl...

I was sat the otherside of the room whilst my wife had her interview and could hear all of the questions. Those questions are very similar to what she was asked. I think she was also asked what email address did she put on the form, where was her citizenship ceremony was, and how did she send her a...

One thing is the online form seems to think that everyone must have got their British citizenship through blood. So if your parents are not British it asks for your mother's parent's details, and then if they are not British it asks for your father's parent's details. Last time I saw one, the paper...

Referees are not required to say anything about the applicant's presence in the UK during the qualifying period. All they have to do is confirm your identity, that the details on page 4 are correct (to the best of their knowledge) and that they have no convictions. That's it. When I applied for nat...

I believe that visitors, without a visit for marriage visa, may apply for a COA.
Can you still get married at a Anglican church without a COA? Or has that loophole been closed?

Re: Referees for Naturalisation application form?

Not recommended to ask someone who has only known you for 6 months to sign a form claiming they have known you personally for over 3 years when the form states: "I understand that I may be liable for prosecution resulting in a penalty of up to 3 months imprisonment or a fine not exceeding £5,000 or...

I feel this requirement to allow only certain professionals to serve as referees is quite an outdated one. It's possible this was relevant years ago when people went to church every Sunday (priests/ministers), went to their local and met with their manager personally on a regular basis (Bank manage...

Was it a ESOL skills for life with citizenship? If it didn't mention citizenship then I think you still need to take the Life in the UK test.

Re: Referees - foggy area

I must admit that on a first look list of accepted professional referees sounds confusing. I just spoke to HO about referee of type "Engineer (with professional qualifications)" and lady on the other side of the line wasn't even sure what that actually meant. She eventually managed to say that anyo...

Surely you will be ticking No to the first question in section 4.1 as you haven't yet completed 2 years - if you had you'd be applying for ILR. And hence you don't have to give a reason.

It might override some provisions, but a Filipino without a residence card will still need a visa. And as no embassy will issue a visa to a Filipino on the same day (minimum of 2 weeks delay) trying to get one at the point of entry ain't likely to happen.

Sue them. I personally won't let this lie. It is the very fact that no one does anything (or tried but could get enough remedy) about these situations that they continue to get away with it. Not knowing the rules is one thing - but at least the supervisors or higher authorities should know. Then ag...

Your fiancee will have to apply for a visa even according to the directive.
