If you satisfy the meaning of parent , then your child may apply for a Certificate of Entitlement to the Right of Abode . I might be missing something here, but will that actually work? Right of Abode is for British citizens which would mean that dual nationality is being claimed. I know the UK imm...

You can't switch from a visit visa to a settlement visa within the UK. 1) Indefinite Leave to Enter is granted outside of the UK and Indefinite Leave to Remain is granted within the UK 2) Yes though see answer to 3) 3) 2 years, but if all you do is make short visits ever couple of years to 'renew' y...

After more discussions with my girlfriend (thanks to the information you have provided), she thinks the Marriage vist visa would be the best option. We would get married here, then she would return home, and then apply for a spouse visa. After all that I'm assuming she would have to apply for FLR(M...

Re: ILE for spouse of UK citizen living overseas

Thanks for the quick reply djb123. Is there any other step I could take to increase the chances that my wife can settle in the UK with our daughter in the event of my death please? Neil The problem is there might not be any settlement categories she could easily apply for from outside of the UK in ...

Thank you all for the very helpful (and entertaining!) replies. I do already have a UK company, the problem is that I am currently paid through a US payroll and the job is a new one so I don't want to risk losing the job by suggesting to them a switch to contractor status. Think you'd be best to ta...

Thanks djb123...I agree it would be harsh. I hope that, if they find my lack of wedding evidence problematic, they'll let me know and give me the opportunity to provide some rather than just outright refusing me. I'm sure they'd be reasonable and give me that opportunity...it's hard not to be paran...

I am surprised at this...I am planning to apply for Citizenship and checked with Bath Council services and they told me it will be around £90 for a couple. That is a lot of diccference. Bath & North East Somerset Council charge £75 for a couple (it's £90 for a family of 4). Redbridge charge £70...

Bear in mind that even if the rules are not changed, it might be that you do not meet the requirements ...

I am a UK citizen living overseas (currently Singapore) with my wife and daughter. My wife is a PR China citizen and our 4 year o...

Would have thought you'd be better to wait until ~February 2011 (assuming you were in the UK in 5 years prior to that date) when your absences in the final year will be less than 3 months.

thank you.
i believe you can apply, though you stand more chance of being granted the visa if you apply from the country where you are resident.

Yes I agree, but it is not the requirement by HO. I think you find it is. I can see why you could try to argue that "they have known the applicant personally for more than 3 years" could mean that the referee knew the applicant well for a period of three years, just not the last three years, but as...
