Ok, thanks. I know that this isn't an exact science, but just to try to get a feel for things... If the Income Support level for a couple, per week, is £93, then that's just under £5k per annum. Adding £10k per annum for rent gives £15k per annum. So, over two years that's around £30k in total...

The BIA will usually disregard absences of up to 300 days in total over he 5 y...

We are planning on returning to the UK permanently by march 2009. I want to apply for citizenship in August 2009 but have a ques...

As long as they receive your application for FLR by the 11th January you will be ok.

There wouldn't be any problems at all if you sent it by special delivery as late as the 8th January.

Re: illegals and national lottery

please can someone let me know if illegal immigrants can claim a lottery win I don't think anyone would know the answer, so maybe try searching the Lottery website Ts&Cs. I only know that you have to be a 'resident' of the UK and IoM, but what that means in immigration terms, I do not know. I know ...

Does someone know that a person who is retired can be referee and can an electrician or plumber be professional one? If you are married to a British Citizen you only need to have been resident in the UK for 3 years. The Chilean Embassy website suggests they will issue one of these when a Chilean nation has lost all their travel documentation and needs to travel home in an emergency. So I guess they'd want you to report the passport as lost to apply for one ...

There is also the Marriage Visit Visa, where u get married within the six months, return home and apply for a spouse visa. I think she should apply for a fiancée visa. Having read the Governments Response to the Path to Citizenship Consultation, I get the impression that ILR will be kept as an alternative to citizenship. You seem to think naturalisation and ILR are the same thing, they are not. You need to get ILR, then you can be naturalised.

The rules you found are for naturalisation, not for ILR. For you to get ILR as a work permit holder you need to have spent a continuous period of 5 years lawfully in the UK.

Don't think they plan to take it away from anyone. But I guess that if they wanted they could make it easier to take away and remove access to benefits to persuade people to apply for British Citizenshp/permanent residency.

Just seen on another forum that someone who was granted a spouse visa on the 3rd October 2006 but didn't arrive in the UK until the 14th November 2006 (delay of 6 weeks) has just been granted ILR directly rather than having to apply for FLR first.

Maybe the BIA are being a bit more flexible.

What type of visa? If you mean visit (ie up to 6 months) then yes. If you mean permanently then no, I don't think it's possible until you get ILR.
