The thing is, though...I don't believe that you can effectively shop around for the "best" council to do your ceremony in. Your post code determines the council that will do it. I say this from experience. I went to Westminster for my NCS and put Westminster down on the AN form for where I would lik...

Just FYI...

Islington Council charges £100 for a private ceremony held on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Or £250 for one held on Friday. Or £450 for one held on Saturday.

That is absolutely not true. Your parents need to qualify for naturalisation on their own merits under the published rules.

Naturalisation!

Waiting can take up to six months. I know it's hard to wait, but you're almost done.

Good luck!

To put it bluntly, if you and your husband originally entered on six-month visitor visas and have overstayed, then after the baby's birth all three of you (mother, father and baby) will be South African nationals staying illegally in the UK and liable to removal. If you decide to regularise your sta...

I had a related question. If someone wants a private ceremony and the local council charges something like £100 for that, do we still pay the Home Office the £80 ceremony fee, or is the £100 council fee typically on top of the standard £80 fee? Yes, it is on top. That extra £100 or so is a mon...

I know that Heathrow has a VIP facility for special visitors, but I believe that is not used for every "celebrity" that happens to arrive in the UK. I would imagine it's more for visiting heads of state and their entourages. A few years ago I had Matt Damon in line behind me going through the non-EU...

First of all, "mars" is French. The third month of the year in English is "March". Not to be overly pedantic, but if you do need to spell out any of the months on the form, just make sure you do so correctly in English. For your situation as described this is what I would write: Country visited: Fra...

I've always been curious about how Belgium works regarding citizenship. With only apparently three years of legal residence needed before one can lodge a nationality application, it always struck me as being extremely generous. But is it that simple in practice? I'm guessing that one might need to h...

There is absolutely no reason why you can't have as many citizenships as you want...provided that all the nationalities are okay with multiple nationality. Canada, the US and the UK all permit multiple nationality. If we were talking about Denmark or Japan or Norway, for example, that would be diffe...

Take it for what it's worth (as it's a secondary source), but Wikipedia suggests the following: South Korea has mandatory military service of 21 months (in army, reducing a day per two weeks). There are no alternatives for conscientious objectors except imprisonment. In general, with very few except...

I'm in a similar boat. They did update the settlement forms for ILR (e.g., SET(O) and SET(M)). But they didn't update AN. You know, they didn't say they were going to specifically update the AN form. They just said that updates in general were going to be made. From http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk...

Qualifying period for naturalisation after ILR

I thought that members applying for citizenship might perhaps find this interesting. My one year period on ILR ends on May 12th, 2010. I rang up Westminster Council this week to request an NCS appointment. I originally thought that I could have my NCS appointment on Tuesday, May 11th, knowing that m...

Worst case is she gets rejected and loses a few hundred pounds. Just as a little warning, the cost for nationality applications (including the ceremony) from April 2010 will be £735, which is a bit more than pocket change. But this is like a trebling in the past six years or so. With that in mind,...

I didn't say that there have been any explicit government statements that the ten-year route to ILR/probationary citizenship won't exist. However the worrying thing from your point of view is that in all the new government plans, they make it very clear that there will only be three routes to perman...
